Sustainable Practices

Leading up to his time with the Green Home Solutions franchise, Baranowski has served in development roles with Nationwide Floor & Window Coverings, HomeWatch Caregivers, ComForCare, SYNERGY HomeCare, Boost Home Healthcare, HOODZ and DUCTZ. Those experiences not only prepared him for this new position but gave him insights into how franchisors can improve their sustainable practices, he said.

“It’s important to ensure that products and materials are sustainably sourced, with a preference for organic, recycled or plant-based options, and additionally, to implement practices that minimize waste in production and distribution. This includes reducing packaging, recycling materials and promoting reusable items,” Baranowski said.

He added that energy efficiency and green building practices are critical for sustainability. “[Franchisors should] invest in energy-efficient appliances, lighting and HVAC systems for franchise locations, and encourage or require franchisees to use renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power, where feasible,” he said. “For new franchise locations, consider using sustainable building materials and methods. Certifications such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) also show your dedication to sustainable practices.”

To ensure continuous improvement, he endorses sustainable audits and emphasizes the importance of promoting environmental responsibility to franchisees, staff and customers. “Education can help foster a culture of sustainability within the organization.”

Franchise Development

In addition to sustainable practices, Baranowski said he believes in identifying the right candidates to achieve franchise success. Franchisees who have a passion for executing the franchise model at a high level not only succeed individually but also help grow the brand. By thoroughly screening candidates, offering comprehensive training and support, and clearly communicating expectations, franchisors can identify passionate and capable franchise owners who will execute the franchise model effectively and contribute to the growth and success of the brand.
