With Their Senior Care Franchise, Ryan and Hayley Murray Built the Life They Always Wanted

More travel, more family time, more money to pay for their children’s education, and more time to give back were some of the things Ryan and Hayley Murray craved before becoming business owners. They wanted financial independence and found it through franchising.
Before investing in their Indianapolis ComForCare franchise in May 2009, they both had jobs that helped others. Ryan was a teacher and Hayley was a physical therapist. “We wanted to continue serving others, but we wanted it on our own terms,” Hayley says.
The couple worked with a franchise consultant who recommended ComForCare, an in-home care-giving franchise with services that include personal home care, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and private-duty nursing.
The couple loved the idea of making a difference through their work, and there was plenty of opportunity with ComForCare’s in-demand services. After a discovery day at corporate headquarters, they were sold. “Once we met with the home office team, we knew ComForCare was the right fit for us.”
Building a Senior Care Business

Since they opened for business 13 years ago, the couple has worked to build the life they always wanted but say it didn’t come instantly. “It takes time and commitment, but it’s well worth it,” Hayley says.
Some of their biggest challenges have been staffing. “We have some amazing team members but always need more.”
On a typical day, Hayley goes into the office in the morning to check in on things, then typically works from home in the afternoons to be present for her children. “I love having that flexibility,” she says. But even with the added freedom, Hayley says she and Ryan are never completely off work. “The business is always in the back of our heads. It’s a labor of love.”
For the Murrays, financial independence means feeling secure with their financial situation. “We don’t have to worry about affording house or car maintenance because we know we have a cushion for emergencies. We are still financially responsible, but it allows us to enjoy more things.”
