These Fast-Food Franchises Honor Fallen Heroes with Freebies and Specials

Updated May 25, 2024

Memorial Day, commemorated annually on the last Monday in May, honors the heroism and sacrifices of our fallen military heroes. Formerly known as Decoration Day, this day of remembrance dates back to the 1860s following the Civil War. Newspaper reports show that some of the first Memorial Day commemorations were organized by enslaved people in 1865 in Charleston, S.C.

It wasn’t until May 1868 that the practice of using spring flowers to decorate the gravesites of men who died while serving in the Civil War officially began. Fast forward to today when ceremonies at Arlington and other national cemeteries around the country honor those who bravely served.

As a small token of their appreciation, fast-food franchises commemorate the national holiday by offering freebies and discounts to active duty and retired military personnel. Below is a compilation of some of the brands honoring America’s fallen heroes this Memorial Day 2024.
