April and Scott Goodger Elevate Home Life for Retirees While Giving Back to Their Community

April and Scott Goodger have found the ultimate rewarding franchise in Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise of Greater Ocala, Fla. Their day-job tasks of improving storage functionality and accessibility are rewarding on their own. But the Goodgers take fulfillment a big step further by giving back to their community.

“What surprised us most about Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise is how much fun we have helping customers establish a stress-free retirement,” Scott says. “Our territory includes The Villages, the world’s largest master-planned 55-and-older community. People move to this area to enjoy an active lifestyle playing golf, pickleball, swimming, crafting, dancing or participating in hundreds of other activities without being stressed about a cluttered, unorganized, hard-to-access home. They’re not as agile as they were in their younger years. Digging items out of cabinets becomes difficult. Our unique niche lets these homeowners live their retired years in comfort.”

Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise franchisees April and Scott Goodger enjoy giving back to their community through their business. They support several schools and nonprofit organizations through fundraisers and food drives, and by supplying storage cabinets stocked with pantry items.

Giving Back

As their franchise has prospered, the Goodgers have given back. They support The Rock, a volunteer-run project that supplies students’ essential needs at no cost to Carver Middle School and Leesburg High School. When the couple assisted with the launch of The Rock at Carver Middle School, “we partnered with our customers and the community to fill an entire pickup bed with food items to stock their pantry,” April says. “We also supplied wall cabinets for storage of pantry items.” At the high school, the Goodgers donated a large wardrobe closet to store clothing for The Rock.

In other school support, to celebrate the third birthday of their Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise franchise this year, she and Scott contributed $3,000 to Carver Middle School’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support program, which guides students toward being respectful, responsible and ready to learn. In another birthday gift, the Goodgers donated a 55-inch 4K television to Carver Middle School. The couple also helped elderly Habitat for Humanity residents by giving them a 32-inch double-tray lazy Susan, aiding accessibility in their kitchen.

Those types of innovative components are key to the brand’s success. “We typically do not get involved in full remodeling jobs such as gutting a kitchen or bathroom,” Scott says. “Our uniqueness lies in the fact that we work within existing spaces to help homeowners accomplish their storage and accessibility goals. This franchise allowed me to invest in myself and do something I love without having to reinvent the wheel.

“Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise stood out as a unique, newer opportunity that was poised for growth. I love that every day is a little different. Some days I’m running design consultation appointments or assisting our other design consultant. Others, I’m helping our team by delivering product to job sites. And then other days I’m out in the community at shows, events or networking opportunities.”

Local Marketing

Marketing is a must, Scott says. “Our largest challenge has been making ourselves known throughout our community so the phone will ring and result in sales. I’ve counted at least 14 other closet companies and a few other kitchen organization companies in our area. To overcome this competitive challenge, we participate in local shows and events that allow us to display our products as sponsors while also giving back to our community.”

The Goodgers plan to scale up with the Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise brand, “but slowly. We have a large territory that has more than enough opportunity to grow beyond what I even first believed we could ever accomplish,” Scott says. “We regularly reinvest our profits back into the company, allowing us to steadily grow as we can afford to do so.”
