Arkansas Franchisees Help Families Through Change With Estate Sale Services
A shared passion for the brand led Rod and Marissa Hicks (together above), father-daughter franchisees, to invest in Blue Moon Estate Sales. Blue Moon franchisees — always intent on easing clients’ stress — organize and hold sales of possessions when clients need to clear out a loved one’s property or will be downsizing or moving.
“Blue Moon encompasses everything that Marissa was looking for,” Rod says. “We enjoy being able to help families when times get hard, working in a variety of different homes, and the business helps fuel creativity. It’s a fun environment to work in and is a great business without a lot of overhead costs.”
Rod and Marissa had no background in estate sales when they signed on to become Blue Moon co-owners, but the franchise taught them the ropes. Rod, who retired from the Marine Corps, previously owned a Cleaning Authority franchise and was a franchise business consultant. Marissa has marketing experience and worked in sports management for the Arkansas Soccer Association, which is the state governing body for soccer athletes in Arkansas under U.S. Youth Soccer and U.S. Soccer.
Working Together
They split the duties of their franchise, which began serving Central Arkansas (mainly the Little Rock metropolitan area) in April 2021. A typical day finds Rod handling business calls, setting up consultations, planning the schedule of where supplies are needed and banking as necessary. “I check in many, many times a day with Marissa.” Her workdays usually start with updating sales information and loading contracts, getting their team’s preparations started, going to consultations, communicating with the team to ensure the checklist for sale preparations is squared away, and creating social media content for that week’s sales “along with whatever else the day throws at her,” Rod says.
The duo has experienced challenges — such as learning to work together without affecting their personal lives — and tremendous gratification.“Watching our business grow after all the blood, sweat and tears has been very rewarding,” Rod says. “Our work ethic, which includes our incredible team’s work ethic, has paid off. Paired with a great reputation and positive feedback over the years, this has led to our business being recognized as one of the top estate sale companies in Arkansas.”
Franchisor Support
Rod credits Blue Moon headquarters with a major assist in the family franchise’s success. “We’re lucky to have Blue Moon franchise supporting us throughout the years. Our corporate team is always ready to help and step in when needed for our team. Another amazing part of Blue Moon is the connections we have made with many other franchisees across the country. We are truly like one big Blue Moon family.”
The franchise is part of the Best Life Brands portfolio, which provides wide-ranging services to senior citizens. Other Best Life Brands include At Your Side, Boost Home Healthcare, CarePatrol, ComForCare and Next Day Access.

Growing Demand for Estate Sales
The aging U.S. population is creating new opportunities for estate sale businesses as more Americans consider downsizing, relocating, or transitioning to retirement living. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population aged 65 and older reached 61.2 million in 2024, representing 18% of Americans.
Downsizing is also becoming an important consideration. A 2024 AARP survey found that 44% of adults aged 50 and older expect to move at some point, while about two-thirds consider downsizing a good option. According to the National Association of Realtors’ 2026 report, baby boomers accounted for 55% of home sellers, with many moving to smaller homes, retiring, or relocating closer to family.
These trends point to continued opportunities for estate sale franchises like Blue Moon Estate Sales, which help families clear out and sell household belongings during major life transitions.
