Dogs enrich our lives. They give us devotion, love and protection, and they deserve nothing less from us. Playful Pack, established in 2017 by Tyler, Alyssa and Scott Parker, is dedicated to the health and well-being of all dogs. In addition to providing the highest-quality dog day care and boarding for furry clients, Playful Pack also teams with local dog rescue and other charitable organizations to support dogs in need, including offering a temporary safe haven when shelters and foster homes are full.

“Our mission is about much more than providing a place for dogs to be the healthiest and happiest they can be. We’re also here to do what we can to provide a better life for those dogs that didn’t get all the opportunities that so many dogs were given,” Alyssa says.

A Growing Pack of Dog Lovers

What began as a family endeavor based on a shared passion for canines has evolved into a growing community of dog lovers, with franchise locations in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland, as well as its newest location in Charleston, S.C.

Playful Pack’s human clients are essential members of the pack, too. “Our clients are helping us help others who are less fortunate,” Tyler says. “At Playful Pack, foster dogs get to live at our facility, gain social skills with our furry friends, and be cared for by our amazing staff at our cost.”

Playful Pack also gets involved in its local communities, promoting dog adoptions and sponsoring fun activities for pups and their people, and sharing information about dog-friendly businesses, parks and events.

“This dedication to community service not only enriches the lives of pets and their owners but also reinforces Playful Pack’s role in showing compassion within the communities we serve,” Scott says.

A Great Place for Dogs

Playful Pack’s cage-free facilities include climate-controlled indoor play rooms and exterior play areas with plenty of room for romping and socializing, as well as a variety of places for pups to crawl, jump and explore. Sanitation practices are meticulous and all products are dog-safe.

Dogs are divided into groups based on size, temperament, play style and other factors, and they’re constantly supervised to ensure all dogs’ safety. Plenty of couches and cots are available for pups to chill out and snooze. Pooches who board get private spaces overnight. Grooming and spa services are also available.

Staff members schedule morning and afternoon enrichment activities to keep pups stimulated and engaged. These include splash parties, bubble play, ball bobbing and even story time. Just in case of emergency, staff members have been trained in first aid and pet-centered CPR. Dog owners can keep track via live webcam feeds, social media photos and daily progress reports.

More Than a Business Opportunity

Dogs are the most popular pet in the U.S., with about 65 million American families owning at least one dog, according to Forbes Advisor. Pets in general are big business, with Americans spending $136.8 billion on their pets in 2022, which was up almost 11% from the previous year, according to the report.

“Plenty of big corporations are eyeing this potentially lucrative market, but Playful Pack is locally owned and operated,” says Brock Dudley, vice president of franchising. “Our founders are all located in the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area, and they’re personally responsible for the operation and oversight of each of our facilities. We’re fully committed not just to the success of Playful Pack but also to each pup’s success.”
