With Virtual Tours and More, Dogtopia Offers a Fun, Immersive way for Clients to Engage with their Services
Dogtopia, the largest and fastest-growing dog wellness franchise in the U.S., is taking pet care to the next level with exciting new technology. By launching an interactive virtual world, Dogtopia now offers pet parents a cutting-edge way to explore its daycare, boarding, and spa services, making it easier and more fun to choose the best care for their furry family members.
The company recently debuted the Dogtopia virtual world, an interactive tool that allows pet owners to learn more about Dogtopia’s daycare, boarding and spa services.
“As the world advances technologically, Dogtopia is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation to ensure the best experience for all dogs and their families,” said Neil Gill, president and CEO of Dogtopia. “We are thrilled to introduce this cutting-edge virtual world and provide pet parents with a modern, immersive way to explore our wellness offerings and choose Dogtopia with confidence.”

Dogtopia’s Virtual World
Prospective clients can tour the facilities virtually so they’re prepared for their first visit. They can also use the virtual world to find the closest location, schedule an initial meeting, and have a chance to win a free month of daycare. Pet owners can also browse the products for sale at the Dogtopia Shop and test their dog knowledge with an educational quiz.
The gamified elements of the virtual world encourage more frequent and longer engagement with the tool, Gill says. “Let’s face it: Every Dogtopia dog loves a good game, so we figured our parents would enjoy the same experience,” he says. “It is important for brands to make it easy for their customers to explore their offerings at a time and place that suits the customer in a way that is fun, engaging, and educational. We had been looking to create a modern, interactive way to let dog moms and dads experience everything Dogtopia has to offer without leaving their homes, and by working closely with Obsess (an e-commerce platform), we were able to do just that with the launch of the Dogtopia virtual world.”

Dogtopia utilizes technology in other aspects of its business as well. The company’s live webcams allow owners to monitor their dogs throughout the day from a mobile or desktop device, and a mobile app simplifies scheduling appointments and curbside drop-offs and pickups where available.
DASH Activity Monitor
Soon the company will launch its DASH activity monitor in select markets, allowing pet owners to check their dog’s daily activity, which is a first in the dog daycare space, Gill says. The tool will help the Dogtopia team quantify the company’s services and demonstrate the value of daycare, especially important for dogs with weight issues.
“In early beta testing, the data provided by the DASH activity monitor helped several parents realize how much more exercise and stimulation their dogs get at Dogtopia compared to when the pups stayed home, thus leading to increased visits,” he says. “The DASH will be a powerful tool for our daycares to not only increase frequency and retention but also improve the care of every dog who comes to Dogtopia, which is of utmost importance to us. With 59% of dogs in the U.S. suffering from weight disorders, Dogtopia can play an important role in weight management through controlled and measured exercise.”
Along with the advantages of technology, however, comes the need to make sure that the personal touch isn’t lost. “We always ensure that our daycare teams remain the primary point of contact for personalized care and that technology complements rather than replaces human interaction. We see our virtual world as enhancing the overall experience through education and convenience, while understanding that our store teams are the single most important touch point for our parents,” Gill.
About Dogtopia
Dogtopia emphasizes safe socialization for dogs during daycare, as the animals are separated by size and temperament and closely supervised during play by trained staff members. The spacious play areas are climate-controlled and well-ventilated to reduce odors.
The first Dogtopia location opened in 2002, and franchising began in 2005. Now the company has 274 locations in the U.S. and Canada, with another 300 in development, Gill says. The company is on pace to open more than 400 centers by the end of 2025 as the pet care market booms globally. According to a report from Bloomberg Intelligence, the global pet industry is positioned to expand from $320 billion in 2023 to almost $500 billion by 2030. And the pet grooming and boarding market in the U.S., which was valued at $10.2 billion in 2023, is projected to reach $15.8 billion by 2029, according to Arizton.
As Dogtopia expands, the company is maintaining its commitment to ensuring the best experience for dogs and their owners. “We are very proud of the fact that the majority of our stores today are locally owned and operated by passionate business owners and teams who love what they do,” Gill says. “At Dogtopia, everything we do is for the love of the dog.”
