Patrick Clark on Leadership, Team Building and Empowering Entrepreneurs with Bright Brothers Franchise
Patrick Clark’s entrepreneurial journey came full circle. He started modestly as he grew up in a trailer park, always looking for ways to make money, whether by mowing lawns or selling his mom’s greeting cards. Today, as co-founder of the Bright Brothers franchise, he’s empowering other entrepreneurs to create their own success stories.
As a young adult, Clark worked part-time in exterior surface washing when his employer went out of business. With a 3-week-old baby at home, he had no choice but to start his own business, launching Precision ProWash in 2007. Since then, Clark’s business has grown as he began using a soft washing process that was more effective and less damaging than traditional pressure washing. He helped launch ten licensee locations and created a training platform called Sales Boost.
Clark later partnered with Larry Janesky, founder of Contractor Nation, a company that provides support and training for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. Together they founded Bright Brothers, a franchise that provides exterior house cleaning, gutter cleaning and protection, and holiday lighting. And Clark discovered his “true love,” he says, which is helping other people. “That’s the reason Larry and I formed Bright Brothers, to take the proven systems that I have created over the past 17 years, pair that with Larry Janesky’s 35 years of experience and the support provided by Contractor Nation to bring prospective entrepreneurs into this industry, shorten their learning curve and lead them to new heights.”
Q&A: Patrick Clark, Bright Brothers
1. What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership is all about building a strong team of people around you. There’s only so much time in the day and you can’t make more. Sure, you can work longer hours and try to fit more in, but with the sacrifice of spending less time with family or giving up the things you love. A leader of a Bright Brothers franchise is the team builder in chief. By forming a team and giving team members the resources necessary for them to succeed, they can focus on the higher level direction of the business, continually train and allow the business to flourish.
2. Please share your favorite mantra or motto in business.
My favorite motto in business is a quote from Babe Ruth: ‘It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.’ We at Bright Brothers make every effort to make a franchisee’s journey to business ownership as smooth and easy as possible. With any business, an owner will encounter some degree of hardship, but we know that success comes to those who persist despite any obstacles in their way. We firmly believe every setback is an opportunity to learn, adapt and grow.
3. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
While there have been many great moments in my career, my greatest sense of accomplishment comes from helping business owners improve. I am a huge proponent of continued education for both personal and professional growth. Whether it’s through a simple phone call or in-depth training, I truly love helping people grow and achieve more success in their businesses.
4. Who do you admire in franchising and why?
Although they are in a different industry, I admire the Junkluggers. The Junkluggers offer environmentally friendly junk removal services and they’ve utilized the resources provided by Contractor Nation to become one of the fastest growing franchises in their space. They empowered their franchisees with continued training and education to provide consistent, positive results for their customers, a goal that Bright Brothers shares.
5. What qualities do you seek in your team?
Our core values are trust, reliability, and professionalism. We aim to set ourselves apart from every other cleaning or lighting company by being a high-value, low-risk provider. This starts with our people and a program we call WOW! Service. This principle focuses on creating the best customer experience possible through every step in the process, from setting the appointment to doing the work and even after! We look for people who believe that doing things the right way is the only way.
6. Why do you love franchising?
I love franchising because it allows me to do what I love: helping other business owners succeed. When I started my company in 2007, I was on my own, so I know what it feels like to struggle and figure things out the hard way. My goal is to offer aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to enter the washing and lighting industry without having to learn those tough lessons alone. The franchise model also lets us harness the power of our brand on a national scale. Brand presence and recognition are critical for lead generation, and we strive to be the best in the business.
7. How can franchise owners make the most of their business?
Franchisees can make the most out of their business by leaning on the support offered through Bright Brothers and Contractor Nation. Having helped hundreds of entrepreneurs grow their businesses, we have a wealth of knowledge to share. We know what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t. We know that business is a tool that entrepreneurs use to achieve their goals in life, whether those goals are financial or personal, such as being able to spend more time with family. By tapping into the proven systems that we have in place, franchisees can shorten their learning curve and achieve success faster, allowing them to spend more time doing what they love.
