EverLine Coatings and Services has integrated new technologies and creative applications into its business model as it has become the fastest-growing line striping and pavement maintenance franchise in North America, says founder and CEO John Evans. But even with the success of these innovations, the company hasn’t lost sight of its “bread and butter,” as Evans calls the primary services of painting stripes in parking lots and repairing asphalt.

He started the company in Canada in 2012 and began expanding into the U.S. in 2022. In less than two years, EverLine Coatings opened its 100th location with a franchise in Cleveland, Ohio. The company’s achievements were recently recognized when it debuted on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500 list for its exceptional performance in areas such as unit growth, financial strength and stability. It was also named by Franchise Business Review as a Top 200 Franchise based on criteria including core values, training and support and overall satisfaction.

EverLine Coatings and Services Franchise Paves the Way

Evans attributes the company’s successes to years of preparation in laying the groundwork for growth. “We were in business for 10 years in Canada, and six of those years were as a franchisor, with a lot of testing and navigating through the Canadian market,” he says. “We were able to refine our operation to strike a chord in the American system.” EverLine Coatings diversified its business model as the company  became a full-service provider. “That immediately differentiated us in the U.S.,” he says. “Getting onto the Franchise 500 list was all about the foundation we built on the Canadian side.”

Because his parents were franchise owners, Evans saw up close the challenges of running a business. “I learned that you are always on, that there are no breaks and that it is a lifestyle,” he said. “Being a kid, I didn’t quite understand what my parents were going through. But I did see the nonstop dedication it required to grow a business.”

He became a franchisee for a painting company while he was a college student. “In college, I feel like I got my MBA in business since I was actually running a real business while in school,” he says. “I learned real applicable skills like how to market, sell, generate and add value, how to hire people, and how to motivate people. I was in business class actually managing a business while my classmates were learning about the overall concept. The major takeaway was learning the level of intensity of running any business.”

‘Entrepreneurial Empire Builders’ Wanted

The company is seeking franchisees who are capable of the same dedicated focus. “We are looking for entrepreneurial empire builders,” Evans says, “people who are hungry, who want to utilize their people skills and build relationships in a B2B-based business.”

New franchisees receive robust training, including instruction at the company headquarters and ongoing coaching after a location opens to help them master all the aspects of the business and understand the company’s values and customer-focused culture.

EverLine Coatings takes a broad approach to parking lot maintenance, from striping to repairing asphalt surfaces and sealcoating, with an emphasis on preventive maintenance that can increase the life of pavement. Beyond parking lots, the company offers painting and asphalt repair services for bike paths, playgrounds and outdoor sports courts — especially pickleball courts, as that sport has boomed. The company also has services for indoor areas such as warehouses and basketball courts.

EverLine has continued to push the envelope for what can be offered in the franchise system.

Tech Advancements, Custom Solutions

One of the company’s innovative products is TBL Durables, an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional traffic paint that produces significantly less of the harmful volatile organic compounds. TBL Durables, which is exclusive to EverLine Coatings, also lasts from two to four times as long as traditional traffic paint and can be applied more efficiently, with a faster drying time.

Another technological advancement that sets the company apart is the use of infrared pothole repair, a proprietary technique for more effectively fixing potholes. Rather than creating a temporary patch, the process allows the asphalt to adhere properly for a longer-lasting result, Evans explains.

EverLine Coatings and Services franchise also offers customized projects such as 3-D crosswalks, glow-in-the-dark line striping and custom stenciling services, which let property owners incorporate messaging, artwork or corporate logos into a parking lot, crosswalk or building. “Many clients are now looking at the parking lots as a canvas for branding,” Evans says.

With its ability to provide custom solutions while focusing on core services, EverLine Coatings is committed to sustained growth to meet customer demand, Evans says. The parking lot maintenance market is expected to grow significantly over the next few years, according to Grand View Research, which estimates that the North American commercial parking lot maintenance market was valued at $16.08 billion in 2023.

“EverLine has continued to push the envelope for what can be offered in the franchise system when it comes to world-class line striping and pavement maintenance,” says Evans. “We are excited about the future as we continue to make our mark and set new standards in the dynamic world of franchising.”
