The Multi-Unit Franchisee was One of the First to Use the Pest Control Franchise’s Newly Launched Packages

Mosquito Squad, an outdoor pest control company under the Authority Brands umbrella, has tapped Greg Atwell as director of operations. This role allows him to utilize his decades of franchising experience to develop and execute strategies that promote the brand’s growth.

Atwell gained first-hand experience with mosquitoes and the nuisance and health hazard they pose while living in Las Cruces, N.M. The city’s close proximity to the Rio Grande River and flood-irrigated pecan orchards made for “the perfect mosquito breeding ground,” Atwell explained. After meeting a Mosquito Squad owner and seeing the results after a property was treated, he knew the business was for him. He currently owns Mosquito Squad franchises in Las Cruces and El Paso, Texas.

Atwell assumes his new role following Mosquito Squad’s introduction of four new pest packages (Squad Home Shield, Squad Fly Control, Squad Invader Guard and Squad Yard Defender) that focus on region-specific pest issues. As one of the first franchisees to use these new packages, Atwell has already experienced an increase in sales, and he looks forward to working with franchise owners to expand the brand.

Mentorship and Franchising

Mentoring franchise owners and helping them navigate challenges to attain success has been rewarding for Atwell, who has served as chair of Mosquito Squad’s Franchise Advisory Council for the past eight years. That experience helps him better understand the inner workings of the brand, which benefits him as a franchise owner and director of operations. “The opportunity to work directly with President Jef Flournoy to help guide and build the direction for the system is a fantastic opportunity that I highly recommend,” he said.

Flournoy presented Atwell with the Franchise Owner of the Year award at Mosquito Squad’s 2023 conference and praised him for showing how the “franchising model, when executed with integrity and creativity, can be a powerful force for economic growth and job creation.”

From Restaurants to Home Services

Prior to joining Mosquito Squad, Atwell spent decades in the restaurant business. He worked for a KFC franchise from age 14, advanced to manager at 18, and eventually became a multi-unit supervisor by 22. He and his wife subsequently opened their own location in Aspen, Colo. He is currently the president of Southeast New Mexico Foods Inc. and the owner of G&T Investments.
