Ghosh’s Restaurant Industry Experience Spans More than Three Decades
Sumi Ghosh has been tapped to lead Mountain Mike’s Pizza as president and chief operating officer. Ghosh is responsible for overseeing the pizza franchise’s operations, development and information technology. He brings 30-plus years of restaurant industry experience to the role, including leadership roles at Starbucks, Dutch Bros and Yum! Brands.
“I have been with growth companies at all of my stops,” Ghosh said. “What every one of those companies had was a competitive advantage and a unique proposition. Mountain Mike’s superior product and award-winning pizza — on top of a unique experience bringing family, sports and community together — is compelling.”
Ghosh said he’s excited about supporting existing franchisees and bringing new ones onboard. “It also brings me great joy seeing lives change and improve through the leaders we have in our franchise support center and the family of franchisees and team members across all of our restaurants.”
Mountain Mike’s CEO Jim Metevier said Ghosh’s experience will be invaluable to the company’s continued growth. “As Mountain Mike’s continues to increase community and guest access across the country to ‘Pizza the Way it Oughta Be,’ it’s critical that we optimize and reinforce several key areas of our business, which is why we are proud to welcome someone with such a notable history of restaurant brand elevation to our executive team,” Metevier said.
A Growth Mindset
Ghosh cited presence, personnel and culture as drivers of franchise success. “The most successful franchisees are present in their restaurants. They manage and lead the guest and team member experience to ensure expectations are being met. The next key is having the right people on their teams. Great franchisees create a culture of caring that feels like a family supporting the development of their people. The relationship with their teams can be evident in how they welcome and treat the guests. A great team environment fosters a great guest experience. Lastly, it’s key to have uncompromising standards for your unique proposition.”
Collaboration and open communication are key to his leadership philosophy, Ghosh said. “Leadership first means responsibility and privilege. I am responsible to the brand, the history and to all the people who have created this enduring legacy. I have the privilege of working with those who have entrusted me with this role — and I take that responsibility and privilege very seriously.”
When he’s off the clock, Ghosh enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and three children.
