Johnson Leads the Fast-Casual Taco Franchise’s Rebranding Efforts
Rusty Taco will look to Natalie Johnson, its new director of marketing, for a brand refresh. Johnson also will develop marketing initiatives for the Dallas-based fast-casual restaurant franchisor. She joins two other recent hires for the Rusty Taco leadership team: franchise business consultants Roland Wayment and Dustin Drago.
Growing up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Johnson said she has always liked Rusty Taco. “Its laid-back atmosphere and focus on fresh, real ingredients create an inviting space where everyone can enjoy great food and feel at home,” she said. “The brand’s strong community ties and growth potential made it even more appealing.”
By leading the fast-casual franchise’s rebranding, Johnson will aim to highlight Rusty Taco’s core values. “It’s about refreshing our brand’s identity while maintaining a strong connection with our loyal followers, all while attracting new customers. I’m eager to explore creative ways to expand our reach to new audiences. I look forward to working with the team to drive growth and make Rusty Taco an even more beloved name in fast-casual dining.”

Rusty Taco President Daniel Smith said newcomers Johnson, Wayment and Drago will help revitalize the brand. “Each team member will play an active role in shaping consumer perception of our brand, including marketing efforts and the positive guest experience resulting from streamlined restaurant operations,” Smith said. “Current franchisees can expect elevated corporate support.”
The Power of Marketing
Marketing’s blend of creativity and strategy hooked Johnson on the field, she said. Johnson started her franchising career at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. For five years she served in a senior marketing role, boosting brand awareness, monitoring market trends and analyzing marketing campaign performance to ensure continuing effectiveness. “This experience has equipped me with the ability to quickly adapt, understand customer needs and implement marketing tactics that resonate with our audience. At Rusty Taco, these skills will help me drive engagement, strengthen brand awareness and connect more effectively with our customers.” She sees significant power in engaging with guests on social media and creating personalized experiences. “Utilizing data and feedback is also key to refining initiatives and driving loyalty,” she said.
But Johnson isn’t all work and no play. During her downtime, she enjoys outdoor activities and incorporates them into her travels. She has hiked trails in locations such as Texas’ Big Bend, the Grand Canyon and the Rocky Mountains.
