Every March 14, the mathematical sign Pi (3.14159) takes center stage. The history of Pi Day — which also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday — goes back to 1988 when physicist Larry Shaw introduced the occasion with a circular pie-eating parade at the Exploratorium, a San Francisco-based interactive science museum. But Pi Day didn’t become official until the U.S. House of Representatives signed legislation in 2009.
