Leaplings Celebrate February 29th with Restaurant Specials and Promotions

Nearly every four years, the Gregorian calendar gets an extra day: February 29, or leap day. This special occasion can mean frog jokes and about five million birthdays for the first time in years, but why do we have a leap day? You may think the earth takes 365 days to journey around the sun, but it actually takes 365.242190, leading to the need for an additional day every few years, according to Jackie Faherty, an astronomer at the American Museum of Natural History.

But why does February get this extra day, you may ask. The Romans considered the second month of the year to be unlucky, and February only had 28 days to begin with, so they just shoved it on, explains data scientist Alexander Boxer to NPR.

To celebrate this once-in-every-four-year event, fast-food restaurants have fun deals and promotions to celebrate “leaplings” born on February 29 and those just looking to commemorate an extra day in February.

The following are Leap Day 2024 related fast-food freebies, promotions and offerings.
