Simplicity sells. That’s the conclusion of business and marketing experts, as well as consumers. According to a global survey reported by Harvard Business Review, almost 70% of managers in all types of businesses said excessive complexity raised their costs and hindered their profit growth. Consumers also prefer simplicity, which they equate with brand transparency and trustworthiness.

Movita Juice Bar co-founder and CEO Raul Rodriguez (below) recognized these facts in creating the health-conscious, quick-service restaurant concept. Movita’s low-complexity model offers multiple benefits including greater efficiency, reduced costs, improved food quality, enhanced customer service, fewer staffing requirements and easier inventory management – all resulting in greater franchise profitability.

“Simplicity sells because it delivers speed, consistency and clarity – exactly what today’s customers want,” Rodriguez says. “At Movita Juice Bar, our focused menu of smoothies, juices and açaí bowls allows us to operate efficiently, maintain high quality and create a seamless guest experience – all while staying true to our fresh, health-driven mission.”

Low Complexity, Greater Franchise Profitability

In creating the Movita concept, Rodriguez, a restaurant consultant, teamed with friend and business associate Jorge Campos, whose background was in real estate and finance. Their vision was to offer organic, made-to-order açaí bowls and functional beverages including juices and smoothies. Everything would be fresh – never frozen or pasteurized. The name Movita derived from “mo,” for more, and “vita,” which is Latin for life.

The founders’ motivation for creating the health-driven concept transcended business. Campos’ daughter had been diagnosed and successfully treated for a brain tumor years earlier, and a doctor’s recommendation that she consume lots of fresh produce and forgo processed foods and refined sugar aided in her recovery.

Movita Juice Bar’s concept tapped into the growing demand for healthy foods and beverages, as evidenced by a global market size valued at $653 billion in 2023 and expected to soar at a 10% combined annual growth rate by 2030, according to Grand View Research.

The founders also sought to create a business as healthy as its products – hence the low-complexity model. Rodriguez shares how Movita Juice Bar’s efficient operations and streamlined menu appeal to franchisees and customers.

1. Efficient Systems

“There’s a lot of thoughtful planning and specialized know-how behind the systems that make Movita so efficient – from our optimized production layout, designed so most items can be made quickly in a compact space, to our user-friendly menu interface placed at the front by the register for easy customer access,” Rodriguez says. “We’ve also streamlined our recipe process and simplified ordering by offering just one size for all smoothies, juices and açaí bowls. Every detail is designed to keep things moving smoothly for both our team and our guests.”

2. Streamlined Menu

“Our entire healthy concept is built around fresh ingredients. We intentionally avoid highly processed or frozen fruits because that’s who we are. It’s in our DNA,” Rodriguez says. “We use a wide variety of fresh ingredients – fruits, veggies and more – but the key is that they all come together in just three main product categories: açaí bowls, juices and smoothies.”

Research shows that consumers increasingly prefer smaller, more focused menus, which speed up ordering, minimize “decision fatigue” and boost customers’ confidence in their choices. Limited menus also enable franchisees to focus on preparation, resulting in better quality.

“Our menu is relatively small, but it’s highly specialized, which helps us stay efficient while delivering high-quality, made-to-order items every time. Plus, our inventory systems are designed to support smart ordering and minimize waste, keeping everything fresh and efficient,” Rodriguez says.

3. Single-Size Format

“Our customers really appreciate that we offer just one size for our smoothies, juices and açaí bowls,” he says. “Since everything is made to order, this helps create more consistency and standardization across the board. Even more importantly, because we’re health-focused, it ensures that every recipe delivers the same balanced nutrients every time.”

4. Kiosk Tech

“We recently added self-ordering kiosks at Movita Juice Bars to make the ordering process even easier for our guests. They’ve also helped us move faster, since team members who would normally be at the register can now jump in and help prepare smoothies, doubling our prep speed during busy times,” Rodriguez says.

Health Benefits for Franchisees

Movita franchise owners praise the efficient model for benefits beyond franchise profitability. “We’ve received great feedback, especially from people with experience in other franchises,” Rodriguez says. “When they compare systems, they often say Movita feels much more streamlined and organized. One of our franchisees who came from a restaurant franchise was surprised – and thrilled – to find that he could finally enjoy a healthy work-life balance. It was a refreshing change from what he had expected.”

Movita Juice Bar, launched in 2015 and franchising since 2023, has 11 corporate locations, with nine franchise locations open and another 10 scheduled to open this year, plus others signed and in the pipeline.
