Golden Chick, a Texas-based fried chicken franchise, has tapped Sharon Pewitt as director of marketing. Pewitt has nearly a decade of marketing experience in the food and beverage industry, with a focus on the chicken niche.

Choosing to work for Golden Chick felt like a homecoming for Pewitt because she began her advertising and marketing career working with the franchise’s creative partner, The LOOMIS Agency. During that time, Pewitt worked on Golden Chick’s “One Taste & You’re Golden” campaign and collaborated on marketing for Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs. Pewitt praises Golden Chick for its quality and innovation and looks forward to growing the regional franchise’s marketing tool kit. She describes the Golden Chick franchise as a “media-responsive brand” that’s exploring new ways to engage with customers.

Chief Marketing Officer Howard Terry says Pewitt brought the perfect skill set to the position. “We searched for a candidate that not only has a pulse on the industry now, but also a strong future-facing vision of where we could be in the coming years. Sharon is equipped with impressive marketing skills, which we’ve seen in action firsthand, to make her an invaluable asset to our team.”

Understanding the Customer

Prior to joining Golden Chick, she was brand manager for the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers chain. Pewitt says social science and creative opportunities initially drew her to marketing. Successful marketing requires understanding people’s motivations and finding the best way to showcase a brand to benefit the consumer, Pewitt says. She believes that the best marketing strategies are based on giving consumers what they want, with quality as the underlying driving force.

Today’s customers seek authenticity and connection, and they don’t want to feel lied to or deceived, Pewitt says. “Ensure you’re transparent about who you are and what you offer, and deliver on brand expectations. Don’t just talk to your customers, but build a dialogue with them so they can feel connected and engaged.”
