Don Tarinelli will be the first to tell you that franchise development isn’t easy. “It takes grit,” he says, “the kind that gets you through long days, keeps you making the extra calls and pushes you to show up at every event ready to win.” That mindset has shaped his entire career, and it’s now at the center of his leadership as chief development officer at franchise development organization Franchise FastLane.

In this role, Tarinelli’s priorities are clear: maintain a top-tier portfolio of world-class brands, strengthen consultant partnerships and continue building the industry’s best development team.

A people-first focus guides him every day as he supports the growth of some of the most exciting emerging brands in franchising. “We have an opportunity to shape the future of franchising,” he says. “We get to empower our team, strengthen consultant relationships and create pathways for growth that truly change lives.”

He is ubiquitous at franchising events because he knows how important it is to build relationships. “Franchising is a people business at its core,” he says. “Relationships are the foundation of everything.”

He credits his success to those relationships, which include the mentors who helped him along the way. “I’m deeply grateful for the time and wisdom they’ve shared with me. Each one has shaped how I lead, communicate and coach others. Their belief in developing the next generation of leaders is something I try to pay forward every day.”

When building his team, Tarinelli looks for strong people skills. “Empathy, communication and authenticity are what turn great developers into trusted advisors. Franchise FastLane has developed some of the most talented professionals in the industry, and we will continue to develop the franchise leaders of the future.”

His advice for success in franchising? “Take every opportunity to learn from the incredible people in this industry,” he says. “Attend conferences, listen to panels and capture a few actionable nuggets from every session, then implement them immediately. If you do that consistently for a few years, you’ll find yourself among the best in the business.”

Q&A: Don Tarinelli, Franchise FastLane

Don Tarinelli, Chief Development Officer of Franchise FastLane B&W

Franchising is a people business at its core.

1. What do you love most about franchising?

I love that franchising is a people business at its core. Every placement represents someone’s dream of ownership, and being part of that journey never gets old. It’s also an industry that rewards collaboration — consultants, developers and founders all working together to build something meaningful.

2. What should franchise consultants know about Franchise FastLane?

We see franchise consultants as true partners, not just referral sources. Our goal is to make it easy and rewarding to work with us by offering the best brands, the strongest process, cutting-edge technology and a culture of integrity and responsiveness. We want your candidates to find the right brand — so they thrive, succeed and refer others back to you. When your candidates win, we all win, and we’re deeply invested in that shared success.

3. Please share your favorite mantra or motto.

My life mantra is “Live Life on Purpose.” Too many people let life happen to them instead of intentionally creating the life they want. I believe in showing up every day with intention — personally, professionally and in service to others — so that each decision moves you closer to the life and legacy you’re striving for.
