The Marketing Pro Sees the Fast-Casual Concept as a Standout Brand With a Bright Future

Dave’s Hot Chicken, a Los Angeles-based fast-casual chicken restaurant, promoted Brad Haley to chief marketing officer (CMO). As CMO, Haley will oversee all of the brand’s marketing initiatives. He previously served as a marketing consultant for the popular brand.

Dave’s Hot Chicken has taken the fast-casual segment by storm, and it’s an incredibly fun place to work. Our founders created a brand that has had a cult-like following since day one. My goal is to help guide our transition from a rapidly growing start-up to a successful, established chain, while maintaining the magic and – literally, in this case – the secret sauce that got us this far,” Haley said.

To him, Dave’s Hot Chicken has a great brand and image, tasty food, and a fresh take on the guest experience and interior design. Haley is excited about this position because of his belief that Dave’s is a brand with a unique voice that can draw crowds. In addition to Haley’s appointment, Dave’s leadership team recently added Leon Davoyan as chief technology officer.

Dave’s Hot Chicken president Jim Bitticks looks forward to growing his team. “We’ve added Brad and Leon to the team to marry our marketing and tech strategies, which is absolutely essential in today’s landscape. Together, they will help transform Dave’s from a startup juggernaut into an industry-leading giant. We are thrilled to have them join the Dave’s team!”

Haley and Marketing

After starting out in consumer packaged goods, Haley’s first marketing stint in the food service industry was with Jack in the Box. He thrives under the fast-paced atmosphere of food franchising and appreciates that almost every dollar spent on marketing goes directly to the consumer.

Prior to joining Dave’s, Haley led marketing initiatives for IHOP, including the “IHOb” campaign. He also spearheaded marketing initiatives for CKE Restaurants, the parent company of more than 3,000 Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants.

Based on his experience, Haley believes digital and social media are key to any brand’s success. However, he urges franchisors not to overemphasize short-term performance metrics. “Nurturing the brand is still the best way to ensure long-term success.”
