At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives (OLP), culture is everything. As part of the Empower Brands family of residential and commercial service franchises, OLP is built on collaboration, support and a shared passion for helping homeowners transform their outdoor spaces. Franchisees enjoy a close-knit community backed by strong corporate support and a franchisee-first mindset that starts at the top. Brand President Justin Mayer (below) shares why culture is king at OLP, and how that benefits franchisees and clients.

OLP Brand President Justin Mayer

1. How would you describe the culture among Outdoor Lighting Perspectives franchisees?

The Outdoor Lighting Perspectives system is comprised of determined, professional and approachable franchisees. From providing expert client service to collaborating with one another for the betterment of the franchise system, they take great pride in what they do. There is a familial feeling to the system that drives respect and connection.

2. What kind of support do franchisees receive from the corporate team?

The OLP home office is available to support franchisees throughout the tenure of their business. All franchisees go through new franchisee training, where they spend 10 days in Richmond, Va., with the corporate support team learning all areas of the business. From there they are on regular calls with franchise business coaches to help with anything they need. From sales and operations to marketing and accounting, franchisees can have one-on-one support whenever they need it.

3. How does Empower Brands influence the franchisee experience?

The Empower Brands culture and systems feed down through the Outdoor Lighting Perspectives system. Franchisees can expect the same franchisee-first mindset that everyone at Empower embodies. There are systems and processes in place at Empower for shared best practices and learnings across brands to benefit OLP.

4. Are there opportunities for franchisees to connect and share ideas with each other?

Absolutely. OLP offers numerous ways to connect as a group. There are weekly office hours, monthly system calls and two in-person meetings every year. Those in-person meetings especially center around networking, best practice sharing and learning.

5. What qualities do you seek in franchisees that align with the brand’s culture?

The hard skills associated with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives can be taught — the soft skills can’t. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who has a passion to own their own business. Tenacity and professionalism are two qualities that we look for in candidates.

6. How does the franchisee-first mindset translate in terms of recognition of achievements?

We celebrate the success of franchisees any way that we can. Franchisee awards are given at our annual conference every year in several areas of the business, but we celebrate the smaller wins as well. A portion of our monthly systemwide calls is dedicated to the highlights of the previous month — sales, design, reviews, etc.

7. How has being Empower Brands contributed to strengthening Outdoor Lighting Perspectives as a franchise where culture is king?

Empower Brands has impacted the strength of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives by providing more experience and support to our franchisees. The learnings across brands have allowed for better processes, training, etc. for the OLP system as a whole.
