When Jason Wix (above with family) was deciding whether to join U.S. Lawns as a franchise partner, the welcoming, inclusive culture of the commercial landscaping company played a major role in convincing him that he’d found the right opportunity.

While the company’s focus is on commercial work, its inside sales team and in-the-field training were significant pluses, and the personal connections helped to seal the deal. “Speaking with other franchise owners who had grown their U.S. Lawns business was the final deciding factor to move forward,” he says. “They were all very positive and offered their assistance.”

Since Wix opened his first franchise in Gallatin, Tenn., in 2024 and others in Bowling Green, Ky, and Nashville North,Tenn., the next year, he has developed strong relationships with the company’s diverse group of franchisees and corporate staff. “There are owners and employees from all walks of life in the U.S. Lawns organization,” he says. “We just help each other as though we are family.”

Wix relies on his own family in running his franchise, which he initially launched with his son, Hayden, who has since started a different career. “Without his hard work and dedication to getting this business off the ground, we may not have had the business today,” Wix says.

Today, Wix takes more of a hands-off role, while his brother-in-law, sister and parents manage most of the day-to-day business operations. His daughter and his nephews occasionally help out with the franchise as well. “Most of our official business meetings take place at my mother’s dinner table after church and lunch on Sundays,” he says. “I trust my family more than myself to manage the business. We all talk about what needs to be done and how we will move forward to make it happen.”

Wix says that he and his family have built their team by evaluating potential employees based on honesty and work ethic rather than judging them on aspects of their lives they can’t control.

“We really do not pay attention to much other than character,” he says. “If we have an opening and someone is a fit for our family culture (of respect, trust and caring), they have a home on our team.”

U.S. Lawns provides full-service, all-season landscaping services to commercial clients, including retail centers, office developments, municipal buildings and apartment complexes. Beyond basic lawn care, the company also installs hardscapes, maintains irrigation systems, trims trees and manages snow and ice removal.

A Streamlined System

The company has invested in innovative technology to streamline processes for franchise owners, including a proprietary bidding tool that can be used on handheld devices to record measurements directly in the field and can generate a professional proposal in less than a minute.

In addition to the company’s proven business model and low cost to entry, U.S. Lawns provides franchise partners with comprehensive training and ongoing coaching along with support from a dedicated call center and marketing assistance with both digital and printed material. And as part of a large national brand, franchise owners can take advantage of U.S. Lawns’ established relationships with vendors for exclusive pricing on machinery and other supplies.

Founded in 1986, U.S. Lawns opened its first franchise the next year. Now the company has more than 200 locations in 27 states and is the largest and fastest-growing commercial landscape franchisor in the country. In 2024, U.S. Lawns joined EverSmith Brands, a platform of growing franchise brands that focus on the commercial facilities sector.

Wix sees the coming year as a time for growth for his business. “I am excited about what we learned after our full first year,” he says, “and we have some aggressive goals in 2026.”
