Dr. Karen Diaz Meaike is welcoming clients to Blushington Boca Raton, the brand’s first franchise location. A longtime customer, she is thrilled to bring a business she truly loves to her community and share Blushington’s beauty services and inclusive culture. “I just don’t want us to just be another business in the community. The community is our business,” she says.
Founded in 2011 by sisters Stephi Cohen and Nicki Maron, New York City-based Blushington was created to make upscale beauty services more accessible and help clients feel confident. Services include blowouts, makeup applications, skincare and retail products under one roof.
Blushington’s mission and values played a big role in Diaz Meaike’s decision to go from client to franchise owner. “It’s what attracted me to it in the first place,” she says. “I am strongly connected to what the brand stands for and am proud to now be part of its growth.”
The Franchise Journey
After years as a loyal, enthusiastic customer, Diaz Meaike jumped at the opportunity when Blushington began offering franchise opportunities. It was the right time for her to start something new, and she began her ownership journey in 2024. She knew there would be challenges as the first franchisee, but she also felt supported every step of the way. “This is not for the faint of heart by any means. It’s been quite a journey,” she says. “But I’ve also had the benefits of being a franchisee. They’ve walked this walk ahead of me.”
CEO Natasha Cornstein made several trips to South Florida to help Diaz Meaike choose the right location. “There were a lot of boots on the ground. Natasha came down [to Florida] quite a bit, and we toured many possible locations. Every region operates differently and having that guidance was key.”
Now that the doors are open, Diaz Meaike is enjoying the chance to connect with her community. She says the response has been warm and enthusiastic. Her salon is located in a busy plaza with strong foot traffic and neighboring businesses that draw families and women, including a Publix supermarket, Pilates studio, med spa, dance studio, boutique and ice cream shop. “The area has welcomed Blushington from the start. Everybody’s been super friendly, very inviting and excited about our services,” she says.
Inclusive Beauty Franchise
Blushington’s all-in-one beauty model is built to keep clients coming back. With blowouts, makeup, skincare and special occasion services in one place, the brand offers a convenient experience for both routine appointments and milestone moments like weddings, parties and proms.
Blushington recently introduced a flexible membership program that strengthens loyalty and encourages repeat visits. According to McKinsey & Company, membership and subscription models can increase customer retention by up to 40% and spending by 25%.
Diaz Meaike says Blushington’s inclusive atmosphere is part of what makes it special. Clients of different ages and backgrounds feel comfortable there, and in some cases, multiple generations of the same family come in together. “It’s been intergenerational,” she says. “Grandma comes in, mom comes in, and then mom makes an appointment for her and her kids. It’s really all about how a woman wants to feel and be made to feel, regardless of her age.”
Community Focus
Diaz Meaike is focused on building a team that reflects the inclusive, customer-focused experience Blushington is known for. By early March, she had 12 staff members in place, including a general manager, front desk support, hair stylists and makeup artists, and was still hiring. Training is a major focus, with each new team member learning the brand’s signature service standards known as “The Blushington way.”
She is also working to introduce the brand to the broader community through local outreach with bridal shops, schools, PTAs and other local organizations, and plans to invite event planners into the salon so they can experience the services firsthand. Her staff plays a big role in spreading the word as well.
“I’ve dubbed my staff ambassadors,” she says. “So when they are out and about, they’re introducing themselves, meeting people, telling our story and spreading awareness.”
Her larger goal is for Blushington to become part of everyday life in Boca Raton while helping women feel polished, confident and seen. “I’m so happy that we’ve gotten to this part,” she says. “I’m excited for what we’re bringing to Boca, but also for what Blushington is going to do across the nation.”
