Backed by Home Franchise Concepts, the Kitchen Remodeling Franchise Offers Affordability and Scalability
Lauren Borcyk wanted to own a business, but, as a recent college graduate, her resources were limited; a low-cost franchise opportunity with Kitchen Tune-Up proved to be a great fit. Paul and Kathryn Jost (above) liked Kitchen Tune-Up’s lower upfront investment because it enabled them to spend more on marketing and scaling the business. The low-cost franchise also appealed to another husband-and-wife duo, Jessica and Joel Winters, who noted that a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise felt attainable and something they could grow.
Kitchen Tune-Up, which has more than 270 territories, is among the Home Franchise Concepts family of home service brands offering numerous advantages to franchise owners – not least of them being its lower initial investment. The brand recently earned a No. 11 ranking on Entrepreneur’s 2025 list of Top Franchises for Less than $150,000. Other Home Franchise Concepts brands making Entrepreneur’s top low-cost franchise lists include AdvantaClean, Budget Blinds, Bath Tune-Up and Two Maids.
“Kitchen Tune-Up is a smart choice for entrepreneurs, especially those looking for a franchise opportunity without major upfront costs. Not only is our initial investment low, but we also offer in-house financing of up to $48,000 for qualified candidates to help make the investment even more affordable,” says Heidi Morrissey, president of Kitchen Tune-Up & Bath Tune-Up. “You don’t need any remodeling experience to run this business, and we provide you with all the tools, training and support you need to set you up for success. We’re there for you every step of the way.”
Advantages of Investing in a Low-Cost Kitchen Tune-Up Franchise
A lower initial investment was just one of the advantages these franchise owners sought with Kitchen Tune-Up. They share their experiences below.
Paul and Kathryn Jost, Kitchen Tune-Up, Bath Tune-Up, Denver, Colo.
Paul Jost had worked almost 20 years in corporate marketing and management roles, and his wife, Kathryn, ran her own business as a hair stylist. “I was looking for a fresh start with a franchise system where we could build equity in our own business,” Paul says. “What drew us to Kitchen Tune-Up was the ability to work in remodeling where I would be helping customers build equity in their homes.”
“Kitchen Tune-Up’s low initial investment was attractive,” Paul says, “and that allowed us to focus more of our up-front investment in marketing and scaling the business.”
The Josts launched Kitchen Tune-Up in 2020 as a home-based business and moved into a retail showroom in their third year of operation. Demand from their kitchen customers for bath remodeling prompted the Josts to invest in a Bath Tune-Up franchise in 2024. “Beyond helping current kitchen customers, we were excited that most homes average 2.5 bathrooms, which offered us additional opportunities to grow our remodeling business,” he says.
“Customers who have experienced working with us on one remodel like the idea of working with the same company on a second remodel for a different part of their house, and the similarities in remodeling kitchens and bathrooms have enabled us to leverage our team and partners to remodel in both spaces,” he says.
Paul and Kathryn say owning both low-cost franchises has been rewarding and fun. “One of the areas where Kitchen Tune-Up and Bath Tune-Up do a great job is in their sales training and sales process, and we highly recommend franchise owners follow these systems,” he says.
Lauren Borcyk, Kitchen Tune-Up, West Omaha, Neb.
Lauren Borcyk had worked in remodeling, managing subcontractors and doing installations herself for 10 years while also attending college. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish from Creighton University, she considered graduate school or investing in a business. After looking into several franchise brands, she chose Kitchen Tune-Up. “I was looking for a low-cost franchise option with an investment similar to what I would’ve paid in graduate school tuition,” she says.
She found other aspects of Kitchen Tune-Up attractive, as well, particularly the brand’s “family-oriented nature,” she says. “From the beginning, the Kitchen Tune-Up Home Office team was very approachable, open to answering any questions and willing to give clear advice. What really appealed to me about Kitchen Tune-Up over other brands I considered was how much the team members cared for my goals and aspirations as a business owner and were willing to help me achieve them.”
Borcyk opened her Kitchen Tune-Up franchise in 2022, and initially operated the business from her garage, then out of two storage units. “I was able to save on rent, utilities and staffing that would’ve been needed for a brick-and-mortar space,” she says.
In addition to growing the business, she and her husband were growing their family.
“After two years in the business, having two babies and finally getting my feet under me, I was able to begin looking into a showroom space. I appreciate having had that flexibility to save on costs so I could focus on growing a healthy business,” she says, adding that her gross revenue has more than doubled since her start, and her team is twice the size it was.
Although she had worked in remodeling, Borcyk had no business experience. “With help from the Kitchen Tune-Up Home Office, I have been able to build a successful business for myself, my employees and our clients. I highly recommend a Kitchen Tune-Up franchise for any motivated individual looking to build something incredible for their family and community.”
Jessica and Joel Winters, Kitchen Tune-Up, Castle Rock, Colo.
Jessica Winters wanted to build something for herself and her family after working 20 years in the insurance industry. She and husband Joel looked at several franchise options, she says. “We loved the transparency and support that Kitchen Tune-Up offered more than anything else we saw on the market. We could tell the franchisor really cared about our success.”
And, after launching the franchise in 2018, the business quickly took off. Within a few months, the high demand for kitchen remodeling in their Castle Rock, Colo., market, situated between Denver and Colorado Springs, enabled Joel to leave his job in the mortgage industry to join Jessica in the family business, which also employs Jessica’s sister as a cabinet painter.
The low-cost franchise investment was a big advantage in their successful startup, Jessica says. “The sky is the limit in how far you can grow this franchise. There are so many offerings that if you target several of them, there is so much more you can achieve. We now own two territories and haven’t even tapped into the full potential of our second one! We just purchased a new warehouse and we hope to gain more tangible exposure and larger-scale projects.”
Jessica credits the Kitchen Tune-Up system and advice from the Home Office with their ability to scale quickly. “The Home Office told us to trust the process and not reinvent the wheel in the first year, and we really took that to heart and never had to deviate. It’s been a tried and proven system we could count on.”
Investing in the low-cost franchise has provided Jessica and Joel more time with their two children, and the opportunity to become more invested in their community, she says. “We love the community and we love the integrity of the Kitchen Tune-Up organization. We’re so happy to have aligned ourselves with a brand we can trust that shares our values.”
