Why Senior Care Franchises Must Leverage AI

Franchising News: Why Senior Care Franchises Must Leverage AI

Technology is Key to Greater Efficiency, Lower Costs and Improved Quality of Life for Clients

When we think of cutting-edge technology and digital transformations, Silicon Valley or New York’s financial sector might come to mind. Most of us would never picture a grandmother sitting comfortably in her home sipping tea as the representation of technological innovation.

But as our population continues to age and the cost of care continues to skyrocket, the integration of technology into the care of older adults will increase efficiency and cut costs, and improve their quality of life.

These efficiencies also create a better return on investment for senior care franchises as they work to provide exemplary care and streamline operations throughout their network of owners.

Leaning into and adopting artificial intelligence (AI), automation and machine learning (ML) will help at-home senior care franchises gather more real-time data about their clients, automate redundant tasks, and provide franchisors and franchise owners with valuable insights to better understand customer behavior and market trends.

Offering franchise owners access to AI-powered technology can give them a competitive advantage in their local markets by helping them be more efficient while improving the customer experience.

Operating at Maximum Efficiency

For any franchisor, setting up standard operating procedures is one of the best ways to ensure that all franchise locations have easy-to-implement guidelines and offer personalized services.

AI-powered technology works to automate routine tasks, such as billing, data entry and customer relations. It can also help with scheduling and enhanced customer engagement.

While these routine tasks are important to most franchised businesses, they are essential in the home care industry. Families rely on the senior care franchise team’s ability to match the right caregivers with the needs of their loved ones and ensure these caregivers are reliable and punctual, too.

Having the up-to-date data necessary to properly match caregiver and client personalities and build customized schedules can be a matter of life or death in the home care industry.

Franchisors may first need to experiment with how to integrate AI into their workflows by starting with manageable apps or deploying targeted AI tools to address pain points. For example, if franchisees need to improve their customer experience, they can try using AI to match caregivers and clients or to provide plans for personalized care.

Meeting Compliance

Anyone who has had to deal with meeting regulatory and compliance requirements knows how difficult it can be to streamline this process, particularly when regulations often change.

Senior care franchises that provide health care are regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and even non-medical home care franchises have to follow a variety of local, state and federal licensing procedures and/or regulations because of the nature of their services. Everything home care companies do needs to be compliant and that includes any technical platforms they incorporate into their business practices.

When adopting AI, automation and ML technologies, innovative home care franchises make sure that their tech stack is fully compliant on the front end. That means these companies are not only using an AI platform that meets regulatory requirements, but they can then use that AI platform to identify potential risks that can lead to non-compliance.

Enhancing Customer Service

In addition to automation, franchises that have adopted AI-powered technology are also finding ways to improve the customer experience.

Many professional service franchises are already using voicebots to handle minor customer inquiries and to determine when it’s necessary to route calls to human customer service representatives (CSRs). These voicebot platforms triage customer queries so CSRs can provide more detailed customer service that requires the human touch.

For senior care franchises, AI is already being utilized to improve communication between the client, caregiver, client’s family and health care providers.

In the future, caregivers will also be able to review their clients’ personal monitors and home sensors from one AI-powered platform. Using this application locally or from a remote location, caregivers and client families can monitor their loved ones to ensure they are active. Pairing AI platforms with smart home sensors also allows caregivers and family to ensure doors are locked and ovens aren’t left on.

This personalized data helps franchise owners better understand their customers’ needs, leading to happier and more satisfied customers.

Besting the Competition

In addition to providing better and more targeted service, AI is also being used by some franchising organizations to give them a competitive edge.

Not only can technology help franchises recruit, train and retain the best talent in their markets, AI can also help them better understand their franchise owners’ individual markets so they can devise better targeted promotional strategies.

Studies have shown that companies that use modern technology attract better employees and have higher retention rates. Younger generations already are accustomed to modern technology and expect it to be used in their workplaces. Providing them with the right tools to do their jobs makes them happier and more likely to stay at their current place of employment.

For home care franchises, providing caregiving staff members with training they can access remotely helps them maintain their certifications and shows employees that the franchise cares about their ability to learn on the job and earn promotions.

AI can also analyze vast amounts of data, allowing franchises to predict trends, identify patterns and anticipate customers’ needs. This helps the franchise stay ahead of competitors.

Driving into the Future

For many franchisors, the future of business will be driven by AI and the opportunities it can provide franchisors and franchisees. Whether the franchise team uses it to automate routine or redundant tasks or to take deep dives into the company’s data to provide relevant insights, the adoption of this clever technology can improve efficiency, reduce costs and help plan for market changes.

Those in the home care franchising industry need to understand that AI cannot and will not replace human caregivers. People need contact with other people and caregivers can provide that interaction. But what AI can do is motivate senior care franchisees and their caregivers to do their best work. It can free caregivers up to spend more meaningful time with their clients and it can provide franchise owners with the data they need to improve their services and target the right audience.
