When Cody Patrick and Matt Miller set out to create SWEAT440, they envisioned more than just another fitness class — they wanted a fitness experience built around flexibility and efficiency. As experienced personal trainers from Miami, they saw the rapid rise of boutique fitness and identified a missing element: a workout class that fit seamlessly into even the busiest schedules. “We wanted people to be able to drop in whenever they had the time, without the stress of late fees or missing a scheduled time,” Miller explains. Their innovative approach breaks from the rigid schedules of other boutique classes, offering 40-minute sessions starting every 10 minutes, so members can jump in whenever they’re ready.

SWEAT440’s workout design is simple yet intense. Each class is video-led and split into four stations, with three exercises per station, all guided by a certified coach who typically floats between each station. This structured flexibility has quickly won over busy professionals and fitness enthusiasts who value the chance to work out without the usual constraints. “It’s all about efficiency,” says Miller.

As demand for their unique fitness concept grew, Patrick and Miller decided that franchising would be the best way to bring SWEAT440 to new markets. In 2019, they officially launched their franchise program. Today, they operate 21 franchise locations, with another 24 in development. They have been careful about selecting franchisees who align with their goals and values. “We’re not just selling franchises; we’re awarding them to passionate, qualified people who want to be part of a thriving fitness business.”

Boutique Fitness Boom

The rise of boutique fitness has been undeniable, with more people opting for specialized, community-driven workout experiences over traditional gym memberships. Boutique fitness is experiencing remarkable growth, with the global market projected to reach $79 billion by the end of 2029, up from $48 billion in 2022, according to Business Wire. Patrick believes one of the reasons boutique fitness resonates so deeply is the sense of community and personalization it offers. “People don’t just want a workout; they want an experience,” he shares. “SWEAT440 captures this trend while offering the added benefit of flexibility.”

The SWEAT440 business model is designed to be lean and scalable, keeping overhead low and operational processes efficient. Each location typically opens with a minimal team of five employees, including a studio manager, assistant manager and a few coaches. “With our tech-driven approach, we’ve minimized the need for a large staff,” says Patrick. “We want franchisees who are in it for the long haul, who love fitness and want to be a part of a collaborative system.”

This operational efficiency, combined with the popularity of boutique fitness, makes SWEAT440 appealing to a variety of investors. “People who have been considering franchising with us have different motivations,” explains Miller. “Some are fitness lovers who want to bring a fresh, flexible workout experience to their community. Others are business-focused and see the operational efficiency and high customer turnout as strong financial advantages.”

SWEAT440 recently partnered with REP’M Group, a leading franchise development company, to help with their expansion and franchisee support. REP’M was a natural fit for SWEAT440’s goals. “REP’M understood our brand and our objectives right from the start,” says Miller. Known for its expertise in helping franchises grow, REP’M will assist SWEAT440 in operations, sales, training and franchisee support.

Patrick and Miller are thrilled to be teaming up with REP’M. “They’re helping us streamline our franchisee support and take it to the next level,” says Patrick. “With REP’M’s backing, we can focus even more on ensuring our franchisees have everything they need to thrive.”

Franchisee Success

To maintain the quality of each location, Patrick and Miller are seeking individuals or groups who can open and operate multiple locations. “We’re looking for experienced operators who understand the value of following a system,” says Miller. “Our model is optimized for repeatability, so it’s easier for our franchisees to scale and manage multiple studios.”

Running a SWEAT440 studio is about creating a welcoming space where people can reach their fitness goals, Patrick says. “Our franchisees undergo a thorough training program to ensure they’re fully prepared to operate smoothly and bring the SWEAT440 experience to life.”

Daily tasks change depending on the phase of each studio. Early on, franchisees focus on local marketing to build interest. Closer to opening, they handle hiring and check on construction. Once open, they manage the team and keep everything running smoothly. “A good business owner should know and be able to handle all tasks of the business if needed,” says Patrick.

For Patrick and Miller, building SWEAT440 is about more than just growth. They aim to create lasting partnerships with their franchisees. “A lot of franchisors make big promises, but we want to be known for actually delivering on them,” says Patrick.
