Tax Day, the final day to file a federal tax return or request an extension, falls on April 15. Congress is granted the authority to tax all incomes through the 16th Amendment, which was ratified in 1913. The original filing deadline was March 1, which was later changed to March 15 in 1918 and finally to April 15 in 1955, according to USA Today. The deadline remains on April 15 unless it falls on a holiday or a weekend.
