Dr. Samrah Mansoor spent more than a decade working in hospitals, but she wanted a better way to care for patients — one that saved them time and money. In 2014, she made that dream a reality by opening an American Family Care (AFC) franchise in Wichita, Kan. AFC gave her the chance to help more people in her community while running her own business with strong support from the franchisor. “It’s been an incredible partnership ever since,” Mansoor shares. “AFC is a unique brand in healthcare — it’s like a Ferrari in the industry.”

Founded in 1982 by Dr. Bruce Irwin, AFC set out to offer a more accessible alternative to emergency rooms for urgent care. Over the years, the brand has expanded its services to include primary care and occupational medicine. With more than 350 locations nationwide, AFC is now a leader in the booming multi-billion-dollar U.S. urgent care market.

For Mansoor, what sets AFC apart is its focus on giving patients the right care at the right time. “Our approach isn’t just about treating the illness in front of us,” she says. “It’s about preventing what could happen next.”

From Medicine to Business

Transitioning from hospitalist to franchise owner was a significant leap for Mansoor. “I had almost 15 years of experience in medicine when I started with AFC, but I knew very little about the business side of health care,” she recalls. AFC’s comprehensive training equipped her with the tools needed to succeed. “The support from corporate made all the difference,” Mansoor says. “They provided everything from cost management strategies to operational guidance.”

Over the past decade, her Wichita location has thrived, particularly during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We were able to step up and serve our community when they needed us most,” she says.

Mansoor’s role as both owner and medical director keeps her days busy but rewarding. Whether managing her team, treating patients or planning for future growth, she’s deeply involved in every aspect of her practice. She’s also excited about expanding her footprint in Wichita with a second location on the horizon. “This community means so much to me,” Mansoor shares. “I’m thrilled about the opportunity to serve even more patients.” Beyond her local practice, Mansoor values the camaraderie among AFC franchise owners. “We’re like a big family,” she says. “We share insights, support each other and work together to improve care across the board.”

AFC’s franchise model combines medical expertise with strong business support. Franchisees like Mansoor benefit from centralized systems for cost management, streamlined operations and marketing support. This allows them to focus on what matters most — delivering top-notch patient care. As she prepares to expand her operations, Mansoor is excited for the future. “This journey has been incredible,” she says. “I’m proud to be part of a brand that’s making such a positive impact.”
