The Athletic-Based Training Franchise Was a Perfect Fit For Van Der Stad’s Background
D1 Training, a popular athletic-based training franchisor, tapped Jake Van Der Stad as director of pre-sales. With this role, he will build and maintain D1’s sales teams as well as new customer relationships. Bringing over two decades of experience in the fitness space, he’s also spearheading profitability for franchisees by ensuring their new facilities are supported.
Van Der Stad was attracted to D1 Training because of its mission, core values and community-first focus. “Having the ability to work with scholastic athletes at such a young age to help build self-esteem, confidence and teamwork is truly rewarding,” Van Der Stad said.
He’s excited about the brand’s growth potential because of its great business model and mission-aligned franchise partners. “The sky’s the limit for D1, and I cannot wait to see how many lives we get to change.”

D1 Training chief operating officer Dan Murphy released a statement regarding Van Der Stad’s position. “Jake brings to the table a unique and long-rooted background within the fitness industry, making notable improvements and helping brands grow. He is an excellent addition to our team, and with his proven track record, we are eager to see his contributions in strengthening our brand performance.”
Working in the Fitness Space
Being a former athlete himself, Van Der Stad understands the benefits of exercising and cannot imagine working in any other industry. As for the fitness industry’s future, he’s optimistic for its continued growth, especially with the pandemic-induced increased focus on health and wellness.
Van Der Stad got his start working with fitness franchisees in 2020. His loves learning about their backgrounds and what drives them. “Over the years, I have been able to meet some incredible people I would not have had the pleasure to meet had I not been in those franchisee-facing positions.”
He advises aspiring franchisees to invest in something they are passionate about. He believes in the old adage that you never have to work a day in your life if you love what you do.
