Shortreed Has Held Executive Positions with Huddle House and Long John Silver’s

Ascent Hospitality Management, the parent company of Huddle House and Perkins American Food Co., has named Blain Shortreed chief operating officer. Shortreed, who has served in top executive positions with Huddle House and Long John Silver’s, spearheads operations of both of Ascent’s restaurant concepts, focusing on strategic growth and franchisee success.

“Since joining the Ascent family in 2023, we have made significant strides. Guest experience scores have improved dramatically thanks to a sharpened focus on service. We have also laid the groundwork for future growth by enhancing our assets, evolving our menus, investing in our people and launching new growth platforms designed to ensure our franchisees remain successful for many years to come,” Shortreed said.

He cited the new Perkins Griddle & Go fast-casual concept as one of those growth platforms. “The teams at both [Ascent] brands are deeply committed to innovation, best-in-class operations and franchisee success. I look forward to working alongside them as we accelerate growth and strengthen our presence in the family dining segment.”

Ascent CEO James O’Reilly said Shortreed’s expertise in optimizing business performance, streamlining operations and supporting franchisee development at brands such as Long John Silver’s and its former parent company, Yum! Brands, makes him a great fit for this role. “Blain’s proven track record in franchise operations and restaurant leadership makes him an invaluable asset to Ascent as we continue advancing both Huddle House and Perkins,” O’Reilly said.

Improving Operational Efficiency

Shortreed said keeping the franchise operator front and center is critical to improving operations. “Helping franchisees grow their profitability is the ultimate measure of success. To operate more efficiently, I would advise other franchisors to strip away all the noise and keep their eyes on this one overriding concept.”

In his free time, Shortreed enjoys spending time with his family and watching hockey. He has been to 32 NHL arenas!
