Art of Drawers is on a roll. Fed by Americans’ unwavering desire for home organization and handsome, easy-access kitchen and bathroom storage, Art of Drawers awarded its first franchise in 2023 and already has 61 in operation. One of those belongs to Jennifer Lyons, who saw huge potential in the brand and opened her Dallas store last April.

Lyons and other Art of Drawers franchisees impress homeowners by simplifying their lives and delivering a strong return on investment at resale. “Many people don’t realize solutions like this even exist,” she says. “Art of Drawers designs and installs custom pull-out drawers, shelves, pantries and lighting for kitchens and bathrooms. Once they see it, they love it and it becomes a need.” From an investment perspective, a minor kitchen remodel returns about 96% of its cost, and a bathroom remodel returns about 73%, according to Bankrate, which provides data to assist in financial decision-making.

Why She Chose Art of Drawers

For Lyons, that bundle of facts translates to a rich opportunity. She chose the brand for three reasons:

  • “I loved the concept. After doing research, I felt it was a product that was only going to rise in demand as more people learn about it.”
  • “It’s an untapped market. There are very few companies that do the same thing, and none that do it to the same level of Art of Drawers. The market for custom drawer solutions is unsaturated so I saw that as a lot of room for opportunity.”
  • “I was drawn to partnering with a new brand because I saw a unique opportunity to be a part of something that could grow into something truly substantial. I wanted to be involved from the ground floor, where I could play an active role in helping shape the company.”

Lyons invested in Art of Drawers “after taking a career break to raise my family. In reentering the workforce, I wanted something completely different from a traditional 9-to-5 job. After being a stay-at-home mom, I felt like I was sometimes seen as being behind or lacking experience even though I knew that wasn’t the case. The business experience I gained before my career break had never left me, and the resilience and multitasking skills I developed while raising my family were incredibly valuable.”

An Entrepreneurial Urge

At a job with a big company, “my ambition and potential would be wasted and just get lost. I wanted the opportunity to create something of my own, to be involved in every aspect of the company, and to build a long-term asset that I could truly call mine. This led me to explore entrepreneurship, specifically franchise opportunities.”

Now she enjoys running her own show. “One of the things I love most is that no two days are the same. My day-to-day responsibilities can vary greatly, and I enjoy the variety. I’m no longer tied to a desk doing repetitive tasks. Instead, I have a great balance of office work along with days spent out and about — whether that\’s interviewing candidates, conducting training, visiting the warehouse, running design appointments or networking.”

Art of Drawers Franchisees

Lyons is an Art of Drawers owner straight out of central casting, says Allan Young, who founded the company in 2019. “The ideal franchise owner is passionate about helping others turn frustration into joy through custom organizing and cabinet refacing. They should think like an entrepreneur, be comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone, and have a healthy appetite to learn and grow. This opportunity works best for people who value strong community relationships, have great interpersonal skills, and aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and build a team to deliver personalized, high-quality customer experiences. What matters most is their drive, curiosity and commitment to excellence. That excellence helps transform how people live in their homes. We create inspiring, beautifully organized spaces that maximize storage and enrich our customers’ lives.”

Franchisees choose the brand for its “robust support system, including lead generation, a sales support center that schedules appointments, and comprehensive sales training,” Young adds. “We\’re deeply committed to ensuring franchisees have everything they need to succeed, from marketing resources to a powerful proprietary technology platform that streamlines operations. We don\’t just sell a franchise; we build partnerships focused on long-term success and quality of life.“Our rapid growth has been driven by a combination of the market\’s increased desire for home organization, which began during the pandemic, and our expanding service offerings, such as cabinet refacing, lighting and hardware. Our business model thrives in both strong and uncertain economic conditions.”
