First Rate Cut of the Year Offers Relief to Franchises Facing High Costs
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell announced last week that the central bank would cut interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. It was the first rate cut of the year with a hint of more to come.
David Kelly, chief global strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, told CNN, “The fact that the Federal Reserve is taking its time, it’s being balanced and measured in how it adjusts its rates. I think that gives confidence to investors all around the world.”
What does it mean for small business confidence? Lower borrowing costs for franchisors and franchisees; opportunities to refinance to lower interest rates; better cash flow for investments in commercial real estate, equipment, technology and more.
“This initial cut will provide relief to small businesses who have been navigating macro-economic challenges and elevated borrowing costs,” said Chris Ward, head of U.S. small business banking of TD Bank in Charlotte, N.C., to Reuters. “This easing could not come at a better time as small business owners prepare for the busy holiday retail season,” he added.
Best of all, this trend could slowly increase consumer demand across the board.
Being the eternal optimist, I’m also thinking about franchise development for the year ahead. And, in that camp, my glass is always half-full. Because if this rate cut trend continues, it comes when Q4 is the big setup for a strong Q1 in the year ahead.
For Franchisors: It’s Budget Season to Plan for 2026 Expansion
As franchisors weigh their expansion aspirations, cue the need for website updates, new videos with successful franchisees, lead gen advertising dollars, content creation for large language models and AI relevance, publicity coverage and citations from trusted outlets to fuel interest in growth. Consider it the new normal, working together to be seen in a zero-click universe.
In an era where SEO, PPC and social media have evolved into prompting questions and taking answers on faith, this is your early invitation to put the pieces in place to show up.
For Potential Franchisees: It’s the Holiday Season to Dream of a Better New Year
As for those who find your opportunity…
Nothing supports the dream of small-business ownership and the entrepreneurial spirit quite like the holiday season. From Halloween through New Year’s Day, family time signals togetherness away from the grind that fuels new career aspirations.
What better time to hear about lower interest rates on credit cards and home mortgages, not to mention potential life-changing investments towards small-business ownership, build-outs and grand openings on the road ahead.
For The Franchise Business Model: History Can Gladly Repeat Itself
After serving as a supplier to the franchising for more than 30 years — 26 of them at Thunderly marketing (formerly BizCom) — I’ve seen the perseverance of the franchise business model through enough economic swings. Our team has supported more than 100 franchisor brands that have awarded over 15,000 franchise agreements.
In that same timeframe, there were dot-com booms and busts, repeated joint-employer threats, inflation, labor shortages, wars and more. But nothing has ever defeated the entrepreneurial desire of a franchise opportunity. Here’s to that small business confidence and the success that franchisors, franchisees and the communities they serve march on.
