February 25, 2006 - Canadian-based Firkin Group of Pubs, a 40-unit chain of authentic English pubs is set to open five additional restaurants/pubs during the next five years in a territory that includes Houston, Sugar Land, Tomball, Katy and The Woodlands, Texas. The franchisee group, Valont Group, LLC is headed by Vu Truong and Khai Lam.

Named the 2003 “Restaurant of the Year” by Ontario Restaurant News, The Firkin Group of Pubs is an English pub chain that goes beyond beer and bar food. It serves great food in a friendly, pub-like atmosphere that draws families, students, professionals and regulars. Every pub is a little different to fulfill the needs and wants of the community in which it is located.

“What distinguished The Firkin Group of Pubs from others was the warm and welcoming atmosphere each pub tried to create. We had visited eight Firkin pubs and all were unique, just like the Firkin slogan” Truong stated. More importantly, The Firkin Group of Pubs has a solid system we could follow and a culture we embraced,” Lam added.

Stanley Adelson and Ian Fisher opened the first pub, Fox and Firkin, in Toronto in May 1987. It was the idea of a traditional English neighborhood pub – where people could enjoy good drink and food in good company – that quickly built a stable of regulars. Selections range from a variety of beverages and delicious meals including: traditional English pub fare like fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches, as well as a selection of entrée dishes such as New York strip steak, roasted chicken, fresh fish and salads and—of course—a wide assortment of draft beers on tap and in the bottle. There are currently 41 units open in North America and 150 pubs in development in the United States.
