June 19, 2009 - Concord, NC: Attention all pups…it’s time to sign up for camp! Camp Bow Wow Concord opens its play yards as the city’s premier Doggy Day and Overnight Camp on Saturday, June 27. Now pups can socialize all day at an upscale camp designed to meet their every need, whether their parents are at work, running errands or on vacation. Located at 8010 Myint Lane in Concord, canine campers attending Camp Bow Wow romp and play all day in doggy day camp and snooze the night away in spacious overnight cabins.
Camp director and owner, Cassie Scofield and her business partner, her father Jeff, designed the new 8,000-square-foot camp with 4 large climate-controlled indoor play areas that open to 4 spacious outdoor play yards, so campers can roam inside and out as they like. Guardians can check-in on their camper’s activities by logging online to Camp Bow Wow Concord’s website to watch real-time footage broadcast from the nine live Camper Cams® installed throughout the play yards and lobby. “Camp Bow Wow’s motto, ‘Where a dog can be a dog,’ is the running theme behind everything we do at Camp Bow Wow,” said Scofield. “The pups attending camp really are considered campers. They’re in the play yards all day and never confined to crates or runs. That’s why the free interview and trial day is so important. It gives us the chance to get to know each pup and how they react in social settings.” Scofield’s team of Certified Camp Counselors® will be trained in Pet First Aid and CPR, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety and health management. To ensure the happiness and safety of all campers, the camp will be staffed with 1 counselor for every 10 campers at all times. Camp Counselors will monitor and rotate dogs to maintain a consistent energy level in each play yard. After playing all day, overnight campers retreat to one of the camp’s 66 private, climate-controlled cabins for dinner and a tasty Campfire Treat. The cabins, all furnished with comfy cots and soft fleece blankets, are large enough so several campers from the same family can bunk together at their parent’s request. Guardians are encouraged to bring their pup’s food from home, but staff is happy to provide food and administer medication free of charge as needed. Camper meds just need to be in the original bottle and cannot require injection. Scofield originally moved to the Charlotte area four years ago to take a teaching job. After bouts of teaching, newspaper writing and spa management, she decided to do some career soul searching. She considered going back to school to study veterinary medicine until she discovered Camp Bow Wow and shared her idea with her business-partner father. After the two attended “Discovery Days” at the company’s Boulder, CO, headquarters, they were sold on the concept and purchased the Concord area franchise. Scofield is currently working with the Red Cross to become certified to teach Pet First Aid and CPR to her staff and plans to hold seminars for pet parents in the future. To start, the camp will also offer doggy baths for their four-legged guests. All campers are required to participate in a free interview and trial day before they can attend camp. Canine campers must be at least four months old, spayed or neutered if six months or older, up-to-date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccinations and have had a Bordetella (canine cough) vaccination within the last six months. Camp Bow Wow of Concord will work with the Humane Society of Concord to foster pups needing fur-ever homes.
