June 28, 2005 - Entering the Franchise Awards will be more valuable than ever this year, promises the Franchise Association of New Zealand. After ten successful years, the Awards have undergone a major revamp to benefit entrants, winners and sponsors.
‘The total number of Awards has been reduced to reduce confusion, increase their value to winners and maximise promotional benefits,’ explains Association Chairman Mike Henderson. ‘Another major change is an innovative system which will provide feedback to all entrants, enabling them to benchmark their performance against others in the sector as well as the top performers.’
The number of sponsors has also been reduced, with long-time supporters Westpac taking the leading role. ‘This will enhance our ability to offer a single clear message to the media and the general public,’ says Mike.
The Westpac/FANZ Franchise Awards 2005 will invite entries in five distinct sector categories. These are:
- Business Services (coaching, printing, bookkeeping, marketing, signage, etc.)
- Home Services (cleaning, renovating, building, lawns, etc.)
- Lifestyle Services (mortgage broking, health/medical services, gyms, vehicle repairs, real estate sales, etc.)
- Food & Beverage (premises-based or mobile businesses offering food and/or beverages for sale)
- Retail (retail shops or outlets other than those included in other categories)
Awards will be made for top franchise system and top franchisee in each of the categories, and from these ten winners the supreme titles of Westpac Franchise System of the Year, and Westpac Franchisee of the Year will be named. A separate award will be made for the Westpac Service Provider of the Year.
‘The aim is to create a new format which will match like against like and create valuable feedback for the entrants,’ Mike Henderson explains. ‘We look forward to a huge entry from those who really want to see how their business performs against their peers.’
Once again, entry criteria are based upon the internationally-recognised Malcolm Baldrige Quality Awards, with points being awarded in each of the following areas:
- Our Customers
- Measurement & Analysis
- Processes and Systems
- Business Results
Entry is open to all current members of the Franchise Association and their franchisees and master franchisees. All franchise systems that enter also receive a free entry for their top-performing franchisee. ‘Our aim is to recognise success and reward excellence at all levels,’ concludes Mike.
