6 Side Hustle Ideas For Moms Who Want Flexibility, Profitability and an Ideal Work-Life Balance

What are the best franchise side hustles for moms? This is a million-dollar question. As a working mom myself, I feel I can safely speak to what most mamas feel and want. So here it is… We are in a position within a family unit where we feel a huge responsibility for taking care of the entire household and everyone in it. For us mothers, it takes a lot of energy, and we are often left wanting more for ourselves.

Several of my fellow moms ask me what franchises I have that would be a good part-time gig or something they can run on the side. I found myself in this position eight years ago when I was a stay-at-home mom. There is something inside of us that yearns to be powerful both as a mom and as a successful career woman.

In most cases, finding a job that would allow for the flexibility in the capacity most moms need is like finding a needle in a haystack. With that being said, the next best option is to go into business for herself. How? By buying a franchise where she invests in a business with a proven success record, an established brand and a support system that has her back. This allows her to not just be an owner, but also part of a winning team.

There are many side hustle options that would allow mothers to continue their role as a Super Mom and earn a lucrative income. Here are some of my favorite industries that do just that.

6 Side Hustle Ideas For Moms

1. Consulting

There are many consulting franchises: cost reduction, business coaching and leadership consulting to name a few. These models allow for flexible schedules as most are home-based. They also have low cost of entry and high margins.

2. Travel Planning

This model is a feel-good business with lots of flexibility and is home-based. Moms can take advantage of their existing networks for a faster ramp-up. Travel planning franchises like Expedia Cruises and Cruise Planners franchises are great options.

3. Senior Care

The senior care industry is in high demand and offers many options within the space. It also allows moms to make an impact in their communities while building a flexible and lucrative business. Some options are home-based like Senior Care Authority, which is a placement and consulting model while others require a small office space, like Griswold and SAFE HOMECARE franchises which offer non-medical senior care.

4. Pet Services

Pets are such an important part of families and one would do for their pet, as they would for their child. The pet industry has exploded in the past few years, and there are many options in this space. A mom can start a mobile pet grooming franchise like Aussie Pet Mobile or Woofie’s franchises, which are both home-based and flexible. She can also start a dog-sitting and pet-sitting franchise like Fetch! Pet Care, also home based.

5. Medical Billing

With a handful of clients, this industry can be highly profitable and have low overhead. These businesses are usually home-based, and you can set your hours. They typically cost under $60,000 to start, such as the Claim Tek and American Business Systems franchises.

6. Home Services

This is one of my favorite industries. I know home services models are usually associated with men, but some of the best operators in the industry are women! It must be because of our attention to detail. There are several models that can be run semi-absentee and some brands even offer women-owned discounts like Mister Sparky, Ben Franklin Plumbing, DRYMedic, and One Hour Heating & Air franchises.
