Cards and flowers are always thoughtful, but this year, fast-food and dessert franchises are also making the grade with special freebies and limited-time deals.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, a Texas-based BBQ franchise, is celebrating the service of educators and nurses by offering them a free scoop of Ms. Ollie’s Strawberry Ice Cream from May 4–8. Valid identification is required to redeem the promotion.
