Franchise Owners Nationwide Contributed to Fundraiser Benefiting National Breast Cancer Foundation
SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service, the flagship brand of FullSpeed Automotive, has donated $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The money was raised through sales of oil changes at franchise locations nationwide during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Linna Alcoser, owner of SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service in Metairie, La., started the initiative. Alcoser’s battle with stage three breast cancer inspired her to lead fundraising efforts in her community to support the work of breast cancer organizations. Other franchisees came together to help support the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission of providing help and inspiring hope for those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support.
“Supporting our communities is at the heart of what we do, and we’re grateful for the chance to contribute to the fight against breast cancer by advancing resources and education for early detection and prevention,” said Scott Accardo, vice president of operations at SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service. “This donation reflects the collective commitment of our team and customers to make a meaningful impact for individuals and families impacted by this disease.”
Breast Cancer in the U.S.
Breast cancer death rates have been decreasing steadily since 1989 for an overall decrease of 42% through 2021, according to the American Cancer Society, which attributes the decline to earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as better treatments. But breast cancer remains prevalent in the U.S. Consider the following, according to the American Cancer Society:
- Breast cancer is second only to skin cancers as the most common form of cancer in women, accounting for about 30% of all new female cancers each year.
- About 313,510 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed in 2024.
- About 42,780 people will die from breast cancer each year.
- In recent years, incidence rates have increased by 0.6% per year. The rise in incidence rates is a little steeper, at 1%, in women younger than 50.
“We are incredibly appreciative for the generous donation from SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service,” said Michelle Romanczukiewicz, strategic partnerships coordinator at the National Breast Cancer Foundation. “This contribution empowers us to continue making a lasting impact, providing vital resources to those in need. Their support is crucial in helping us carry out our mission and create positive change nationwide.”
SpeeDee Oil Change’s Support for Breast Cancer Awareness
The recent donation from SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service franchisees wasn’t the first in support of breast cancer initiatives. Franchisees in the New Orleans metropolitan area contributed a portion of oil change sales during Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2023 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as well.
The recent donation of $50,000 was “heartwarming, but not surprising,” said Vicki Ocken, SpeeDee marketing manager. “The SpeeDee family continually gives back to the communities they serve. In this instance, the impact was huge because they came together to donate to this great cause.”
