Nothing ages a kitchen or bathroom faster than stained grout and dingy tiles. For homeowners, cracked and discolored grout is a hassle to clean and maintain. Over time, moisture, spills and daily wear take a toll, making surfaces look worn and uninviting. While replacing tile can be costly and time-consuming, Sir Grout offers an easier solution. Using specialized techniques and proprietary products, the company restores grout, tile, stone and wood surfaces.

Seattle franchisee Ethan Wickersham saw the potential in Sir Grout right away. Since launching his location in 2019, he has built a thriving business. He leads a team of seven technicians and an estimator, operating from a shop that provides a base of operations and storage space. “This business surpassed my expectations. I never thought I’d be as successful as I am,” he says.

A Speciality Service

Wickersham enjoys helping customers bring new life to bathrooms and kitchens. “We do a lot of regrouting and sealing, caulking replacement and tile cleaning,” Wickersham says. “Shower restorations make up the bulk of our work, but we also tackle kitchen floors, marble polishing and high-traffic areas that need restoration.”

The process involves deep cleaning, sealing and color sealing, which not only restores the grout but also protects it from future stains. “Many people don’t realize that grout is porous,” Wickersham explains. “If it’s not properly sealed, it can absorb dirt, grime and mold, which is why it looks so bad over time.”

His team uses Sir Grout’s proprietary ColorSeal process, which provides a uniform color while creating a waterproof barrier. “It makes a huge difference,” he says. “Clients are always amazed by how fresh and new their floors and showers look after we’re done.”

For Wickersham, no two days are exactly alike but they always start early. “A typical day is getting up and responding to emails, booking jobs, putting out any fires if there are issues and then heading off for estimates,” he says. “I do anywhere from four to eight estimates a day, and in between, I’m dealing with technicians, communicating with customers and keeping track of inventory.”

Because his business focuses primarily on residential clients, Wickersham spends a lot of time in customers’ homes, assessing the condition of grout and tile and providing recommendations for restoration. “We’re about 95% residential right now but we’re trying to break into the commercial space,” he says. “I just started working with a company that’s going to help with that, targeting property managers and condo associations through email campaigns.”

The Ultimate Flexibility

One of the biggest advantages Wickersham has found in owning a Sir Grout franchise is the independence it provides. “The most rewarding part is working for myself,” he says. He enjoys the flexibility to balance work and family life. “I can control my schedule. If I want to take a week or two off for travel, or go to my kids’ games, I can do that. I don’t have to ask anyone.” And he’s not slowing down anytime soon. “We’re looking to scale. I’d like to get up to 10 technicians. This has been bigger and better than I thought it would be.”
