Scenthound, a dog wellness franchise, has expanded its retail line, Houndswell®, to include Daily Dental Support, a supplement to combat periodontal disease in dogs. Daily Dental Support is the latest in Houndswell’s line of canine wellness and hygiene products developed exclusively for Scenthound to provide dog owners with at-home care solutions to complement the brand’s services. The veterinarian-grade products address overall dog health including skin and coat care, ear health and now dental hygiene.

Founded in 2015 as the nation’s first dog wellness franchise concept, Scenthound offers monthly subscription-based hygiene and wellness services at its 110 franchised and corporate-owned locations, called “Scenters,” across 25 states.

“We want to ensure that dog parents are equipped with the solutions they need to maintain their dog’s health and hygiene at home between Scenthound visits. The Houndswell line is about taking further strides toward enhancing the overall health and well-being of the pets in our care,” says Jessica Vogel, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of Scenthound. “For instance, most dog parents don’t know that up to 90% of dogs over the age of 2 already have some form of periodontal disease – but with proper dental hygiene, it can be prevented. We are on a mission to educate pet parents and help dogs live longer happier lives, and Houndswell’s Daily Dental Support is a step toward that goal.”

Demand for Dog Products and Services

Dogs lead the pack as Americans’ favorite pet. Among all pet owners, 49% say they only own dogs, and of those who own just one pet, 69% say it’s a dog, according to a Pew Research Center survey. The percentage of canine-owning households has increased 6.1% between 2016 and 2022, according to Forbes Advisor, which is a faster rate of growth than for any other pet. Of all U.S. pet owners, 97% say their fur babies are part of their families, according to the Pew survey, which bolsters the demand for high-quality dog products and services, including those supporting health and wellness.

The global pet industry is expected to grow from $259.37 billion in 2024 to $427.75 by 2032, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 6.45%. The pet care industry in the U.S. dominates this market, and is projected to reach an estimated $116.14 by 2032. As Scenthound and other concepts prioritize pet wellness to improve pets’ quality of life and longevity, the industry is expected to see increased sales fueled by the continued growth of the pet population within the United States.

Technology Promoting Dog Wellness

In its focus on dog health and hygiene, Scenthound has integrated innovative technology including its proprietary S.C.E.N.T. Check, a six-point wellness check performed by skilled technicians that assesses the dog’s skin, coat, ears, nails, teeth and glands during each monthly visit to a Scenthound Scenter. S.C.E.N.T. Check data is collected to track health trends and provide solutions. Scenthound’s tech-driven approach also includes a proprietary mobile app that offers wellness-based tracking, virtual vet access and more to keep customers apprised of their dogs’ health and well-being. Scenthound also has an internal app to help streamline operations and provide their team members and Franchise Partners access to real-time automated dashboards and advanced reporting.

Technology, multiple revenue streams including products and services, a subscription-based model and, most importantly, a passion for dogs has led to Scenthound’s success with pet owners and franchisees.

A Passion for Pups

Founders Jessica and Tim Vogel, both dog lovers, started the business as mobile dog grooming, then expanded with grooming salons, which over many years led to their realization that most dogs weren’t getting the basic hygiene needed to stay clean, comfortable and healthy. While most breeds don’t require haircuts, every dog needs essential care including bathing, ear cleaning, nail trimming and dental care, they say. Too many dogs are not getting the care they need because their owners either don’t know they need it or don’t know of an easy and affordable way to get it, the Vogels discovered, which led them to found Scenthound.

Scenthound’s monthly subscription-based model not only provides a source of recurring revenue for franchise owners, but also makes it convenient for dog owners to prioritize their pet’s health and hygiene while promoting regular visits that ensure consistent care. The Houndswell product line meets pet owners’ demand for high-quality dog products and services, helping them provide wellness and hygiene care between visits.

After discovering a gap in the dental care sector, Scenthound worked with industry-leading manufacturers to develop Daily Dental Support. Formulated with responsibly sourced, organic kelp, Daily Dental support contains an ingredient that produces an enzyme that helps fight plaque and tartar build-up that can lead to bad breath, tooth loss and even more serious health conditions. To celebrate Daily Dental Support’s launch, the brand is offering a promotion through Oct. 31; customers who buy a bottle containing a 45-day supply get a second bottle for half price.
