Pet Wellness Brand is Disrupting the Industry with its Core Mission of Canine Wellness, Hygiene
A lot of savvy entrepreneurs are flocking toward dog concepts. And with good reason.
Some 68 million U.S. households have at least one dog, with the majority of those pet parents reporting they prioritize the well-being of their canine companions in the same way they would any member of the family.
Spending on items such as food, toys, healthcare, and grooming is expected to top $150 billion in the U.S. this year, according to the American Pet Products Association (APPA). With pet ownership at a record high and the strengthening of the bonds between humans and their pups, franchise opportunities are booming.
Case in point: The explosive growth of the Scenthound franchise. Founded in Jupiter, Florida by Tim and Jessica Vogel, Scenthound’s emphasis on pet wellness and hygiene, along with its innovative technology, savvy branding and membership model have made it a market disrupter that has found favor with dog owners and franchisees alike.
A Leader in Pet Wellness
Scenthound was founded in 2015 after the husband-wife spent a decade running a mobile grooming business. They realized early on that only a small minority of breeds actually needed to be groomed, thus eliminating a vast pool of dogs who could benefit from essential, consistent care, such as regular teeth cleanings. Scenthound’s model focuses on five core areas of maintenance: skin, coat, ears, nails and teeth. Membership includes a monthly visit.
The concept quickly caught on and the Vogels turned to franchising.
Scenthound’s first franchise opened in 2019; within 16 months, 31 units had been sold.
Today, Scenthound has finalized plans for over 300 locations across 26 states. The company just announced a significant expansion in the Southwest, a prime growth market, with development deals for 11 franchise locations including in Phoenix, Arizona; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Another prime target is the Southeast. The 2025 IFA Economic Outlook Report projects that franchise growth in both of these areas is expected to exceed the national average in 2025. As a result, the brand has identified Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, and Kentucky as key growth areas for franchise expansion.
“We’re thrilled to welcome these passionate and driven entrepreneurs into the Scenthound family,” said CEO Tim Vogel. “As we expand our footprint into new markets, our goal remains the same. We will continue to change the way people think about caring for their dogs by emphasizing the importance of practicing proactive wellness.”
Passion for Pets
Both multi-unit operators and entrepreneurs are attracted to Scenthound due to its commitment to bettering the health of dogs along with an economic incentive: the pet industry can provide a recession-resistant opportunity, says Vogel.
The market has maintained consistent growth since the 1980s – even during uncertain economic times – mostly due to the steadily increasing level of pet ownership coupled with strong owner desire to provide the best quality of life for them. As a result, the pet franchise market is predicted to reach $42 billion this year, according to a report by Nasdaq.com.
The Scenthound Franchise
Among Scenthound’s new multi-unit franchisees is Red Solosko, who will bring five Scenters to Salt Lake City. Solosko said the brand was an ideal investment opportunity because of its commitment to bettering the health of dogs. Steve Reback is realizing a long-held entrepreneurial ambition by opening three Scenters in the Phoenix DMA. Reback chose Scenthound for its solid business model.
For new owners, the company provides a turn-key experience, offering hands-on training of Scenthound’s best practices and the how and why behind its pet care approach. They also help in identifying an ideal retail location, provide a purposeful store design, as well as robust marketing and communications support to help build local awareness.
Scenthound made Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list this year, and Jessica Vogel, co-founder and Chief Brand Officer was just named to the Inc. 2025 Female Founders 500 List.
“Our success is driven by the dedication, passion, and hard work of everyone in our system — from our corporate team to the franchise owners and the frontline employees caring for dogs nationwide,” she said in response to the honor. “This recognition isn’t just about me — it’s about all of us, working together to make preventive care more accessible and improve the lives of dogs and their families.”
