Every year, thousands of kitchens are damaged by fire or water, and in many cases, the cabinets are needlessly ripped out and replaced. Insurance adjusters and contractors often default to full kitchen demolition, even when the cabinets are repairable. The result? Families are displaced for weeks or months, thousands of dollars are wasted, and tons of usable materials end up in landfills.

That’s where Renew Medic comes in. This innovative cabinet restoration franchise offers a smarter, faster and more sustainable solution. Instead of tearing out entire kitchens, Renew Medic restores damaged cabinets using proprietary color-matching and time-tested processes.

The need for this service is huge. According to the Insurance Information Institute, over a quarter of all home insurance claims involve fire or water damage. In most of those cases, cabinets are among the most affected — and the most costly — items to replace.

The Renew Medic Franchise

Renew Medic was co-founded by longtime colleagues and franchise veterans Chris Gammill and Mike Pearce, who first met working at ServiceMaster Brands. There, they discovered a shared passion for franchising and a commitment to operational excellence. Today, Gammill serves as CEO of TCB Franchising — the parent company of Renew Medic and Furniture Medic — while Pearce is the company’s chief development officer.

Furniture Medic, one of TCB’s legacy brands, was acquired by ServiceMaster in 1996 and remained under its umbrella for more than 20 years. In 2023, it became part of TCB Franchising.

In addition to years of leadership at the franchisor level, both Gammill and Pearce are former franchise owners themselves. That experience gave them firsthand insight into the challenges and rewards of ownership and helped them build a brand that solves a real problem and supports franchisees.

Why Cabinet Restoration

Pearce and Gammill’s experience in the disaster restoration field inspired the Renew Medic concept. “We saw cabinets getting tossed when they didn’t need to be,” says Pearce.

The men noticed a group of Furniture Medic franchisees finding success repairing kitchen cabinets after disasters. They realized they had a chance to do something bigger. “Contractors and insurers didn’t believe you could take a 25-year-old cabinet, fix it, and make it look new again,” says Pearce. “And so they would tear out entire kitchens and be an automatic entire kitchen replacement.”

Kitchen cabinet restoration is an area with both high demand and significant waste. It can be highly disruptive for families when their kitchens are unusable. Renew Medic’s approach is designed to minimize that disruption by keeping families in their homes. “We prop up countertops, remove only the damaged cabinets, repair them in our shop and reinstall them — usually within two to three weeks.”

Homeowners get to stay home, go to work and school as usual, and avoid a drawn-out renovation. “People love their kitchens and the countertops and backsplashes they spent time picking out. They don’t want to start from scratch,” Pearce says. “And insurance companies love us because we save them tens of thousands of dollars per claim.”

Big Industry, Bigger Opportunity

The global disaster restoration services market is expected to grow steadily over the next decade, climbing from an estimated $71.6 billion in 2024 to $105.8 billion by 2033, according to Business Research Insights. Renew Medic zeroes in on the biggest-ticket item in most insurance claims: the kitchen. More than half of all water loss claims involve damaged cabinets — a costly and often overlooked part of the home.

Unlike general renovation firms, the cabinet restoration franchise specializes in one thing and does it exceptionally well: restoring cabinetry. While Renew Medic franchises do offer cabinet refinishing — including touch-ups and door replacements — insurance restoration is the core of the business, driving about 90% of revenue. “That’s an additional service we add on,” says Pearce. “We call it the clean and touch-up, or a cabinet transformation. But insurance work is where the real profitability is.”

Most jobs are covered by insurance, and Renew Medic already has national account relationships with several top 10 insurance carriers and others. “We’re not trying to become big enough to get those partnerships,” Pearce says. “We already have them.”

Renew Medic franchise work BEFORE AND AFTER
Renew Medic uses proprietary color-matching processes to restore damaged cabinets.

And instead of competing with big-name restoration firms, Renew Medic complements them. “We’re the specialty brand they call when they need cabinet help,” says Gammill. “We support the work of ServPro, ServiceMaster, Paul Davis, All Dry — you name it.”

Designed for Growth

Renew Medic launched its franchise opportunity in 2023, but the concept is backed by more than a decade of proven success. The model is built for both scale and simplicity. Most locations start with just four employees — two installers and two shop technicians.

No woodworking experience is required. Franchisees receive hands-on training at the brand’s Memphis hub, covering everything from color matching and estimating to shop management and business operations. “It’s a full suite of training,” says Gammill.

Territories are generous by design. “Each one includes 250,000 single-family homes or a population of 1 million,” Pearce says. “That gives a single territory serious multi-million-dollar potential.”

Pearce and Gammill set out to build the kind of support team they wished they had when they were franchisees. “Everyone on our senior team has owned or worked in a franchise,” Gammill says. “We have been there. We know what it’s like to manage payroll, invest in marketing and hope it’s working.” Franchisees are matched with expert coaches across HR, marketing, finance and operations. “We’re here to help our franchisees build a real business — not just buy a job,” Pearce says.

Powered by REP’M Group

Renew Medic franchise opportunity

To scale responsibly, Renew Medic franchise teamed up with franchise development company REP’M Group. “Their support helps us grow with intention,” Gammill says. “This is a brand with real infrastructure and experience behind it.”

“Renew Medic is a true game changer in the restoration and home services space. After devastating events like fire or water damage, they offer homeowners something invaluable, which is the ability to stay in their homes while restoring their existing cabinetry,“ says Nick Sheehan, REP’M Group Founder and Managing Partner. ”This isn’t a luxury service, it’s a necessary solution that fills a major gap in the market. Renew Medic’s innovative and recession-resistant model combined with a leadership team that shares in our commitment to building smart, sustainable franchise systems, makes Renew Medic exactly the kind of forward-thinking brand we’re proud to add to the REP’M portfolio. We’re extremely excited to bring Renew Medic to market and help drive its national expansion!”

With nearly 40 territories sold and more than 320 still available, this cabinet restoration franchise is scaling fast. Franchisees are drawn to the recession-proof model and real-world impact. “We’ve got corporate professionals, attorneys and seasoned entrepreneurs investing in Renew Medic,” Pearce says. “They see that this is a niche business that fills a real need, and it’s built to scale.”
