Mike Mettler Appointed CDO of Zaxby’s

Mettler Will Implement Developmental Strategies to Ensure Zaxby’s Growth

Mike Mettler has been appointed CDO of Zaxby’s, a quick-service chicken franchise. As CDO, Mettler will implement developmental strategies to ensure Zaxby’s growth. Mettler brings experience in franchise development and recruitment from his former role at Orangetheory Fitness, where he served as CDO and senior vice president of franchise development.

“Franchising growth requires four things,” said Mettler in a statement. “A strong business model, a solid culture, passionate franchise owners and strategic areas to develop — Zaxby’s has them all.”

Mettler looks forward to having the “opportunity to make a positive impact on the brand, the team members and the franchisees by growing the brand.”

Mettler was attracted to Zaxby’s for many reasons. “Zaxby’s is one of the strongest QSR brands in terms of business model, culture and franchisees. I saw a huge opportunity in the growth of the brand and wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

Mettler believes that “great brands are built on strong cultures and servant leaders. Through continuous growth, Zaxby’s will have a positive impact on our franchise owners and team members by providing growth opportunities.”

Regarding Mettler’s new position, Bernard Acoca, CEO of Zaxby’s, said, “Zaxby’s is focused on DMA prioritization, developing a more robust recruitment platform and delivering options that provide flexibility while maximizing profitability. Mike Mettler will guide these targets, cultivate relationships and collaborate with our franchisees to continue scaling the brand.”

Mettler and Franchising

The last decade of Mettler’s career has been dedicated to helping franchise owners grow their businesses. Prior to working for Orangetheory Fitness, he held senior franchise development positions at Dairy Queen and Domino’s Pizza.

His favorite part of franchising is that it positively impacts the lives of many entrepreneurs. “Franchising is an industry where you can have a positive impact on the brand, franchisees and team members. It is very rewarding to positively impact people and also make contributions to communities,” Mettler said.

For those looking to get into the franchise industry, Mettler suggests, “Do your homework, learn and listen. Working in an industry prepares one for ownership and that specific experience is essential to be successful.”

Mettler is a Certified Franchise Executive and has a background in economics, with an MBA in economics from the University of Michigan and a BA in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. His previous experience also includes working for Ford Motor Company and technology companies like Tyco Electronics, PPC, and Polytorx LLC.
