Franchisees Dave and Sue Fabrizi Help Clients with Unique Tax Preparation and Advisory Services

As a husband-and wife team, Dave and Sue Fabrizi rely on each other to run their multiple Ledgers and ATAX franchises. With decades of experience and passion for helping their clients achieve their goals, the Fabrizis are as unique as the franchises they run.

Dave’s background in tax preparation goes back four decades to 1982. In addition to being a certified public accountant for over 30 years, he has been an attorney since 2003. Sue brings three decades of marketing sales experience. They have been business partners since 2014 and converted their tax business to a Ledgers franchise in 2020. They also invested in ATAX franchises and appreciate the unique attributes and value proposition each franchise offers.

Unique Services

ATAX is a full-service tax preparation franchise that serves multi-cultural taxpayers in both English and Spanish. With a wide variety of tax and accounting services, the business model offers an opportunity for year-round revenue streams.

Ledgers is an advisory service that assists small business owners with their day-to-day accounting tasks so they can focus on what’s important — running the business. In addition to payroll services, Ledgers also advises clients on budgeting, revenue, cashflow, credit card fees, tax planning and more. The franchise even ensures business owners have representation during IRS audits.

Both ATAX and Ledgers are part of the Loyalty Brands franchise umbrella — something that the Fabrizis have taken full advantage of. Dave believes that Loyalty’s resources and brands are great. “The franchises under the Loyalty Brands group provide the opportunity for expansion in other areas, as well,” he says.

The Fabrizis and Teamwork

With multiple ATAX and Ledgers locations, the Fabrizis divide and conquer. Dave runs the Ledgers office and the two ATAX locations in Connecticut, while Sue runs the ATAX office in Fort Myers, Fla. “All of our offices are connected so that any of our staff can work at any location,” Dave says.

Dave would like their current number of employees (four at Ledgers and two at ATAX) to expand to around 12 to 14 full-time equivalents at the beginning of tax season. “That number will reduce to around 10 after tax season,” he says.

During a typical day, the Fabrizis spend much of their time on high-level operational work as well as administrative and marketing tasks. They are looking to concentrate on increasing their business and bringing on new clients by delegating some marketing and operations responsibilities to key employees. “The day-to-day is interesting. Every day presents a different challenge,” Dave says.

Tax Preparation and Accounting: Two Important Industries

Ledgers and ATAX leverage two important industries: tax preparation and accounting. According to Statista, the accounting industry was projected to generate $141 billion in 2022. The tax preparation industry is recession-resistant due to the country’s annual population growth: 11 million new taxpayers enter the tax system through immigration reform alone.
