Balkissoon Joined the Buffet Chain in 2025
Golden Corral has promoted Trona Balkissoon to chief financial officer. Balkissoon, who joined the buffet chain as senior vice president of finance in 2025, succeeds former CFO Jim Laverty, who has retired. She brings more than 25 years of global experience to the role, previously serving as CFO for Nestlé’s out-of-home division.
“I was attracted to Golden Corral because of its resilience, longevity and legacy,” Balkissoon said. “We focus on and invest in what matters most — our people, our guests and our brand experience. Golden Corral is embracing transformation and remaining open to evolution, whether through new growth channels, emerging technologies, evolving culinary trends or new ways to tell our story.
“Golden Corral is poised for growth, and we are pursuing several strategic initiatives, with the goal of doubling our system sales by 2035. We are redefining financial leadership by leaning into digital transformation and business intelligence to create faster, more actionable insights across the organization.”
Balkissoon emphasized the importance of disciplined execution and performance measurement in achieving the brand’s goals. “Finance is about stewardship, using resources wisely to strategically strengthen the brand, our people, our franchisees and the communities we serve. Purpose-driven finance ensures value is measured not just by quarterly results, but by long-term trust and impact.”
Lance Trenary, CEO of Golden Corral, said Balkissoon’s promotion exemplifies the trust and leadership she brings to the organization. “She brings a rare combination of global perspective, financial rigor and a deep understanding of the foodservice landscape. As we continue to evolve, her ability to connect strategy, financial discipline and execution will shape how we move forward,” Trenary said.
Making an Impact
Balkissoon has sought to expand opportunity and representation within the restaurant industry through service with industry organizations. In 2023, she was appointed to the Women’s Foodservice Forum Board of Directors and currently serves as treasurer.
Balkissoon also is a member of the board of trustees for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation serving as a member of the Foundation Executive Committee and vice chair of the finance subcommittee.
