Three Entrepreneurs Offer Insights into the Wellness Franchise
Pause is making its mark in the wellness industry, offering services that focus on preventive health such as flotation therapy, infrared sauna, cold plunge and contrast therapy. Early franchisees Mike Bailey, Ryan Brady, and Lisa Benson are helping lead the way. Here, they share why they chose Pause, how it stands out as a trailblazer in franchising, and the challenges and rewards of being early adopters of this innovative brand.
Mike Bailey, Green Hills, Tenn.
Pause offers an elevated customer experience with multiple wellness and recovery pathways to choose from — all under one roof.
Location: Over the next five years, we plan to open six Pause locations in Nashville and the surrounding areas. Our first location is in Green Hills, and we aim to open during the first week of December.
Why Pause? After leaving a 30-year career in the medical device business, I wanted to find something that connected me more closely with the Nashville community. My son and I both enjoyed contrast therapy, so we explored franchises that could offer Nashville residents a more elevated wellness and recovery experience than what was currently available. Pause checked all the boxes: multiple modalities under one roof with a high-end, spa-like feel.
What makes Pause a trailblazer? Pause offers an elevated customer experience with multiple wellness and recovery pathways to choose from — all under one roof.
What pros and cons have you experienced and anticipated as an early adopter? There are always challenges with anything new. Outside of Los Angeles, Pause doesn’t have much brand recognition yet, so it will take time to build that in Nashville and other areas around the country. Additionally, more concepts are entering this space, which means the wellness and recovery industry will continue to evolve. Those who evolve with it will thrive.
Anything to add? When I first visited Los Angeles to meet the Pause founders and their team, I realized this wasn’t just a business venture — it was a true passion to build a brand recognized as the best in the industry. The Pause team has not disappointed. They care about partnering with the right franchisees and provide full support to ensure success. As a new franchisee, I’ve noticed their willingness to listen, adapt and continue evolving positively.
Lisa Benson, East Cobb, Ga.
Pause is a trailblazer because it combines an intentional wellness philosophy with innovative technology and services.
Location: Our Pause location is in East Cobb, Ga. We opened in November 2024, with a soft launch earlier in the month and a grand opening on Nov. 2. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to continue building connections.
Why Pause? We were drawn to Pause because of its holistic approach to wellness and its focus on creating a space where people can truly reset and recharge. The combination of science-backed, cutting-edge wellness services and a serene, community-driven atmosphere felt like the perfect fit for the growing demand for self-care. The leadership at Pause also played a big role in our decision — they have a clear vision for the brand and a genuine passion.
What makes Pause a trailblazer? Pause is a trailblazer because it combines an intentional wellness philosophy with innovative technology and services. The franchise carves out a niche by focusing on the synergy of mental, physical and emotional well-being in one space while making wellness accessible and approachable. Unlike traditional spas, Pause has created a scalable, community-focused concept that feels personal, modern and transformative.
What pros and cons have you experienced and anticipated as an early adopter? As an early adopter, the pros include the opportunity to pioneer a fresh brand, shape its community presence, and benefit from strong franchise support in a growing wellness market. There’s also the chance to influence the brand’s future and establish its foundation. However, challenges include navigating a learning curve, educating the market about Pause’s unique offerings, and addressing the uncertainties that come with being among the first franchisees.
Anything to add? The Pause franchise team has been incredibly supportive and collaborative. They’ve provided guidance and resources throughout the setup process, from site selection to marketing strategies and operational training. Their passion for the brand is infectious, and their willingness to listen and adapt has made the journey exciting and rewarding. It feels like a true partnership.
Ryan Brady, Atlanta
By bringing multiple wellness and recovery services under one roof, Pause makes wellness significantly more accessible.
Location: Our first location is in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. The studio is set to open in early January 2025, with plans to open two more locations in Atlanta following this one.
Why Pause? Having worked in the industry in New York City, I was already familiar with the latest wellness trends and businesses emerging in both New York and Los Angeles. I knew about Pause and became increasingly convinced it was the right match as I delved deeper into the process.
What makes Pause a trailblazer? It’s not just one thing that makes Pause a trailblazer — it’s the whole package. By bringing multiple wellness and recovery services under one roof, Pause makes wellness significantly more accessible.
What pros and cons have you experienced and anticipated as an early adopter? One of the best aspects of being an early adopter is the chance to contribute to the brand’s development and help create an even smoother process for future franchisees. We’ll always be part of Pause’s launch and, hopefully, its long-term success.
Anything to add? The Pause franchise team has been fantastic. The corporate team has been patient and supportive, ensuring franchisees feel comfortable reaching out with any concerns or needs.
