Sauer will Help the Brand Reach its Goal of 150 New Locations by 2028
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii, a leading coffee chain, promoted Sue Sauer to senior vice president of franchise operations. With this new position, she will oversee the day-to-day operations, franchisee training and development, and focus on creating brand consistency. She joined the coffee chain as vice president of franchise success in 2020. Her promotion comes as Bad Ass Coffee strives to open 150 new stores within the next five years. In addition to Sauer, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii also promoted Chris Ruszkowski to Chief Marketing Officer.
“What I look forward to most is working with our franchisees and creating raving fans in the coffee space,” Sauer said.
She was attracted to Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii because it presented her with the opportunity to help build and shape the coffee brand from the ground up. She added that although Bad Ass Coffee has been around for over 30 years, it is still new and emerging. “The opportunity to work with a brand that your values align with is fantastic. I believe in a quality product and a family, or ‘ohana,’ culture.”

Sauer believes that the coffee franchisor has developed a more forward-looking approach and consistency from location to location – from beverage menu, food menu, mobile app, online ordering, rewards, and more.
Sauer’s Background
Sauer’s first exposure to working with franchisees was in a franchise training role with Wendy’s. During her two decades with the legacy fast-food franchise, she also served as franchise area developer and franchise market consultant. She loves working with a diverse group of franchisees who each bring something new to the franchise system. “Every franchisee is different and provides learning and different challenges to work with. It’s never boring!”
Seamless Operations
To improve operations, franchisors should create systems, processes and operating procedures that are easily trained, implemented, and replicated, she said. “When executed well, this allows the franchisee to focus on building sales and delivering outstanding customer service.”
