New VP Guides Prospects Through Franchise Process and Explains Pet Brand’s Value Proposition
Scenthound, a dog hygiene and wellness franchise looks to expand under the guidance of Tony Nicholson, its new vice president of franchise development. Nicholson’s duties are to lead prospects through the franchise process, introduce them to the brand culture, and explain the franchise’s value proposition.
“Scenthound is a category creator that is paving the way for the future of pet wellness,” says Nicholson, who has more than two decades of experience in franchising. “For the last five years or so, there’s just been so much traction and excitement in this area, and I was eager to find the right fit in this space. After spending a quick stint in private equity, I was approached with this opportunity. Upon meeting the Scenthound leadership team, I was impressed and sold on the company culture.” Scenthound is on the brink of taking off in franchise development, he says. “I’m excited about placing my mark on this brand and leading our franchise development growth.”

Nicholson’s Franchising Experience
Nicholson, a triathlete, got his start in franchising with Self Esteem Brands, the parent company of Anytime Fitness, Basecamp Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, The Bar Method, Waxing The City, Stronger U Nutrition and Healthy Contributions. As vice president of sales, Nicholson led a team of 10 for the umbrella franchisor. He also was a multi-unit franchisee with Anytime Fitness and served as its director of business development.
Nicholson said it was a luxury to be mentored by Chuck Runyon, CEO and co-founder of Self Esteem Brands. “During my time with Self Esteem Brands, I was able to see all aspects of sustaining a mature, developed brand with Anytime Fitness as well as launch and grow newer brands such as Basecamp Fitness and Waxing The City,” he says. Nicholson has also served as vice president of franchise development at Apex Leadership Co., a fundraising franchise that combines fitness and leadership into events for schools, clubs and sports teams.
His philosophy for franchise development is “to attract a certain number of qualified candidates in the right markets where we have space to grow and evolve. We feel that our franchise partners have a better experience and performance when they scale and grow their footprints with us.”
Tim Vogel, co-founder and CEO of Scenthound, considers Nicholson’s franchising experiences a perfect fit to lead the brand’s expansion. “I’m confident that he will be a key player in driving Scenthound’s growth and impact in the industry, helping us to reach new markets and elevate our brand to new heights,” Vogel said.
